My MFs smell funky. Like fishy. I wash them using regular detergent (like All 'free and clear') on warm and then dry on low heat. I do this after every use, never letting them stay damp or dirty after being used for long. But after cleaning them, when they sit for a while they get a weird musty smell...what gives?
 
do you let them dry in fresh air or do you store them in a closed container? my only guess is that they dont get fresh air. i would just toss them unless you have a lot of them or keep them for back up.
 
Beats the heck out of me? I also use Free & Clear, but after about 20 minutes on the warm cycle, I turn it to air dry/tumble for the rest. Are you washing with well water??
 
Are you using a front loader washing machine? If so, you may need to clean, run that machine clean stuff from Tide through it. We had a front loader - kept it 6 weeks before returning it to Sears and getting the old top load machine.
