From swirled to sparkling - v. Black Trans Am WS6

Yup, this is the same one from the post holland_patrick just threw up.



I went up to help him today with this one. The swirls were terrible, to say the least. They were very deep and VERY hard to remove. We tried at least a half a dozen polishes before deciding on a nice combo.



Patrick had me over to watch me on the rotary and also so I could critique him on it. In the end, we were all happy with the results (owner too). I'd say about 90% of the defects were removed and the exterior took about 4+ hours. Final processes:





-Wash and Clay (Patrick had it done before I got there :))

-Meguiar's DACP and tufted cutting pad via rotary @ 2000 rpm

-Poorboy

s SSR 2.5/Menzerna IP and Edge 2000 Cutting pad via PC @ 6 (front bumper)

-Menzerna FPII and LC Polishing Pad via rotary @ 1500 rpm

-Mystery LSP spit shined with PB S+G

You can guess all you want, but you probably won't get the topper. I was VERY surpried on how good it looked when we finished.

Welcome to the world of GM clear!! It's a sleeper of sorts...not much press but I'll be damned if it isn't as hard as some of the German cc's!!

Collonite 476 spit shined with Poorboy's Spray and Gloss.





I've never used this wax, but I was quite impressed with how deep the paint got after using it.

Try the Collinite Insulator Wax. I think it's even better! Pics like those with Collinite as the topper will surely make an excellent case for someone looking for incredible durability with an awesome shine. But it's all in the prep :up

So you are trying Collinite too? I've got the 870 Fleetwood...which I used again today on a tan S420 and like you were with 476, I was very impressed at the depth (and wetness) it gave such a light color. The owner is selling it but since he has a '69 Dodge Dart in piece (I'm not kidding!) in the garage, the car sits outside 24/7 so I figured this would be a good torture test.



Keep us posted on the durability of 476.



BTW, just a little trick I've found that works for me that will work for you and everyone else. Dress the tires/fenderwells before your final polishing so there is no chance of any overspray on the freshly waxed paint. I notice in the one pic the car is shining like crazy but the fenderwells weren't yet dressed. Just thought I'd pass along the suggestion. ;)

Great advice! That is what I do as well.
 
Wow, excellent work gents. Love the look of Collinite on the black paint. The last of the Trans Ams were quite a distinctive car with the Mad Max bodywork, very cool. I was also wondering what kind of wheels they are. Sean or Pat care to let us know?

I've read about the spit-shining techniques here but I always thought it was with water. You used QD instead?
