Friend Has A GG6, Should I Try It (first timer)?

Hey guys,

I just got a new (used, 2011) GTI, and I want to give it a full detail. I have never used a buffer before, and haven't waxed a car in ~4 years! I bought some new products from Poorboy's World (Polish & Sealant) and P21S (carnauba wax). I am excited to use them, but I'm tempted to use my buddies GG6.

I am definitely going to give autoscrub a stab this weekend (weather permitting), and I figure, as long as I have the buffer out, maybe I should try to polish/seal + wax w/ the buffer.... what do you think?

Should I not mix brands on the pads?

Thanks!

You can mix and match. By all means use the polisher. Very easy to use and you will get much better results - good luck and be sure to post before and after pictures

Polisher = PBW Polish & Sealant or the buffer?

It's so hard to show results on a white car :( It's not filthy, just needs some TLC from a new owner :)

Important part is keeping the level of cut the same on all the pads. Go ahead and use the machine, at least for the Poorboys. The P21S, I would apply by hand unless you have 3" pads. You'll end up with more wax in a primed pad than the whole car.

Just verify the cut of the pads is what you think it will be, some polishing pads are more of a finishing pad. If you get two levels of pads too close to each other, you waste time and don't get good results. I'm really a fan of Meguiars and how simple they have kept the pad system over the years. Lake is the polar opposite.

peacemaker- As long as your progression stays "aggressive to mild" you oughta be fine. In most cases the diffs between the pads (like...the differences between various "polishing pads") won't be a *huge* deal and white is nice and forgiving anyhow.
