Four Star Paint cleanser - wow

Dream Machines
After finishing a quick detail on my mothers 2005 Ford Territory Ghia, I thought I would do some R&D on some products I hadn't used for a while.

So Four Star paint cleanser was the first

As I usually do, I test products on every surface of a car to see if it has any abilities beyond paint

The wiper arms on her car I believe are satin black metal (possibly powdercoated)

They come from the factory looking rather boring and I have had great success on my Tickfords low gloss black painted arms with permagard, driven to perfection polish, glare pro polish, fireglaze and ultra gloss.

So much that they look quite wet.

It's amazing how many different types of wiper arms their are

So I get a german foam pad out and put a dime sized amount on it and worked over all the right wiper arm.

Used speed, not pressure for four minutes and removed it.

If only I had a camera - they came up way better than mine

I kept going for another few mins with a dab of product and removed

I swear to you, the arm looks like water and you can see your face so clearly and sharply, you could do your hair on it.

It's taken all of the above products to get a decent finish.

next up were the lower exterior trims (urethane)

I had used my Trim Dream system by machine on these and gotten them medium gloss black (older formula than I use now) but unfortunately this car only gets washed at the coin op and although their soaps are close to autopian quality, they still fade the trims to a white look after five or six washes.

I thought, why don't I try and lift these up without the machine

Same foam pad and more four star.

one minute later, they are as good as the day I applied trim dream and super slippery

next up was the faded side mirror assembly plastics which were white

So many products claim to remove this whiteness caused by strong shampoo

Not only did the 4 * remove the whiteness permanently but it shined them up to a matte black finish

These are a hard textured brown from new so I was amazed.

By the time all this had been done, I went over my cars wiper arms with it and got them even shinier again.

The great thing is, this is a non abrasive cleanser so I could use this as many times as I liked.

Since there are heaps of cars being stored at the shop, I used them as guinea pigs and tried the product on all their unpainted materials inside and out with good results

So never just think FS is a paint only product, give it a go on something that's looking flat and needs a sprucing up.

Thanks Mr Four star, what a product.

I must get a pic of these arms on the net.

Glad to hear it worked for you. You definately stand out of the crowd when it comes to detailing trim.

BTW - I don't think wiper arms were ever powercoated. Most painted trim isn't clearcoated, it's usually single stage. That's probably why they fade.

Four star makes some nice products. Very underrated and underused in the detailing community. At least the online community.

OK thanks, I'm not that smart when it comes to knowing what they are. they are definately not clearcoated, must be a thin layer of SS then.

Yes it is the ultimate product.

I stocked up on about 8 litres of cleanser a couple years ago and it sat on the shelf for a while but has now come back into my regime.

Thans Dave : I'll do anything to find permanent or long lasting solutions to all kinds of trim moldings. I hate dressings that wash off quick.

The Menzerna FMJ sealant came out today and was tested by hand with foam pad on trims, wiper arms and paint.

It gave an insanely glassy finish to the side mirrors on an MG F and levelled out the bubbles on a section of my rear bumper and made the colour really come out.

Didn't do much for wipers but certainly works well on trims and paint

I might use it by hand to finish off after my machine work for a wetter finish

I got out leather conditioner and tried it on textured side mirror backings on our little truck

Didn't work unfortunately.

all that's left to try is four star paint protection as I'm all out of UGE and I certainly am not going to test the wash in a different way.

OK OK so I'm not much into the latest digital stuff, I don't know what an IPOD is, couldn't care less about internet on a mobile (still got an old nokia) but everything gets old sometime.
