Ford SecuriLock Key Programming?

CharlesW

The Rainmaker
We recently purchase a used Ford Taurus that came with only one SecuriLock Key. For me to program new keys, I have to have two of the originals. I only have one. The dealership will program a new key for $40. Add in the cost of a new key, ($25), and it gets to be as expensive as detailing. Anyone know of any way to program new keys if you only have one of the originals?

CharlesW,

There is no other way! My brother is a ford tech and he has done a few keys for me. You might want to see if you can make friends with a ford tech!

Whats involved you may ask that they charge all that money? Once the key is cut they bring your can into the shop and plug it into there computer they take your programed key and turn your car to on. They go into thier computer and do whatever they have to do to program a key they now take the un programed key and place it on a specific area on this computer (it just so happens to be a big ford logo) and walk away for 10-15 mins they come back and the key is programed they unplug your car from the computer test the new key as well as the old key and 20 mins later they are done !

So thats what your paying for!!

That's something else you would think that they would give you two keys to start with
The car comes with two keys when it is new. The problem is that if you don't have a third made right away, you are SOL if you need another key because you lost one. I guess you aren't SOL, you're just out $65 for a key. :)

$65 is cheap compared to double that for a new VW key.

So true. Bought a beetle new in 1962. Needed a turn signal flasher after 4 months. $6.50 for it. A GM flasher was about $1.25 at the time. I will never forget the comment at the VW dealership. "If you want economy, you have to be willing to pay for it". Duuh, O.K. After 10 months, I decided I couldn't afford the economy car anymore and sold it. :)
