(For Canadians) 3M Products at Zellers

I was in Zellers today and noticed that they have started selling 3M products. These are the consumer line of products you have probably seen before. They have the shampoo, wax (liquid), rubber care, vinyl care, gloss enhancer, even swirl mark remover. They have also have 3M detailing tools. Wash mitts, chamois, MF, and sponges.

The thing of most interest is the wax applicator. Most people here have heard about or used the Viking Handi Grip Applicator. It looks like a door knob. If you read the packaging on that you will see they are made in Canada. They are not made by Viking. Well Zellers is selling the 3M version which is identical to the Viking one and it's made in Canada so obviously it's by the same company. So if any Canadians have been curious about these applicators you can get them locally now. Here is a link to the one Autopia Store sells, it's exactly the same as the 3M and Viking ones but it's yellow instead of blue. http://www.autopia-carcare.com/vk-101.html

I saw the 3M in the flyer and was kind of interested, but 98% of my products are Meguiar's, so unless it is ultra cheap I'm going to stick with what I have.

As for the hand applicators, don't most people on DC have a PC DA or a cyclo?

Thanks for the heads up Anthony. I'm going to head down to Zellers and have a look, especially at the hand applicator.
Even though I have the PC 7336, I still do most of my LSP action by hand.
Sometimes Zellers has sales too and we can never have enough stuff like soap and stuff.

Not cheap. (Although they are on for 25% off this week)
16 oz. Shampoo-$7.99
16 oz. wax-$10.99
Gloss Enhancer- $7.99
16 oz. Swirl remover- $10.99 (Or $X.97 ... in that range.)

As to the applicator, I think they are made by SpongezZ, of North York Ontario. (They were actually 20¢ cheaper at Home Hardware-not the 3M labelling, though.)
Some people like doing things by hand, and some areas require "by hand" due to the angles, curves, etc.

I wasn't aware that they were available at Home Hardware. How long have they been available there? I have never seen them there.

At least 3 years. Not sure the exact time frame.
Item # is 6640-824. You can see a poor picture, but decent description on their website in their catalogue. It's listed in their Marine section. Last one I bought was $1.79.

Are they only available from Home Hardware on line?

Edit:

I just checked out the catalog for Home Hardware and it appears to be a different product from the Handi Grip App I was referring to. The one in the HH catalog is terry the Handi Grip is foam.

Nope. I got mine in the store. The site comment was so you could see them. Also, with the part #, you can ask the people in the store to order you one if they don't have it in stock. (It didn't seem too popular of an item whenever I was there.)

Yours is foam? The site description says it's terry.

The applicator/handle is foam. It has a "terry" layer glued to the "bottom."

Than it's not the same as the 3M applicator being sold at Zellers. The 3M one is all foam and it's identical to the Viking Handi Grip you hear about on the forums.

Ok. I went to Zellers today and re-inspected the 3M selection.
Name: "3M Wax Applicator With Terry"
I bought 1 and compared this one with the SpongezZ one.
Both come in a similar plastic bag.
Both are blue foam with white terry "applicator."
Both say "The terry cloth pad is ideal for use with rubbing compounds."
Only difference I see is that the 3M one is a bit bigger.

Maybe you have a different selection at your Zellers. I asked the sales associate if they had any that were straight foam. I got the patent "Uhm... All we carry is on the shelves. If it's not there, I guess we don't carry it."
Could you go to your Zellers and see if you can get one that's all foam? If so, could you get me a UPC so I can see if I can get them "special ordered?"
This UPC is 0 51131 82908 4
Thanks.

As requested. The CPU is 0 51131 82912 1

It is called "Heavy Duty Wax Applicator" $2.47 CDN

Just for your info the Zellers I went to has both versions. They are both 3M and are identical except one has terry and one has foam. Both have the door knob type handle. The one I listed is all foam and it is identical to the Viking Handi-Grip I purchased at AutoZone in the USA.

Thanks! I'll have to see if they can get the other one in!

I don't think that will be necessary. I am pretty sure all Zellers carry the same products. I suggest you go and take a closer look. I didn't realize that there were two types until you mentioned the terry one. When I first noticed the apps in the store I only seen the pure foam one. When I went back to get the CPU for you I noticed the terry ones also. They actually had to pegs, one for the terry and one for the foam. Of course they were all mixed so when I looked through them I found the terry one you mentioned. I would bet they have both at the Zellers you visited.
