Folex on a Convertible Top?

Has anyone tried using Folex Spot Remover on a cloth top to remove bird droppings? Does it affect the water repellency on the area that is cleaned? (Maybe it can be effective if it is dilluted)

It seems to me that this would be a great product for spot cleanings on a soft top since there is no need for rinsing. I know some people use Renovo Soft Top Dry Cleaner for quick spot cleanings, but it cost $20 for a 300mL can.

303 Fabric & Vinyl Convertible Top Cleaner

List price: $7.95 per quart.

I have used it, works well (nice and foamy, lifts the dirt)

Is it necessary to rinse the 303 Convertible Cleaner completely? For example, would a water squirt bottle and a rag be sufficient to rinse the spot after the cleaner is used, or do you need to hose the area to fully remove the cleaner?

Hmmmm. Have the bottle in front of me, process is to wet down with water, spray on cleaner, agitate, hose off until there is no more foam. If this doesn't remove difficult soiling (bird droppings, tree sap, oil, etc.) it says to spray cleaner again and let sit for 10-20 minutesand then rinse thoroughly until no foam is observed. It does say not to let the cleaner dry on the top.

From the practical point of view as a spot-cleaner (bird droppings?) I would take two spray bottles - one of cleaner, one of water - wet down, spray, scrub (brush or towel) and spray down with water. If you're within 20 minutes of home, you can spray on cleaner and drive home to hose it off (again, I'd do the whole top). If you're not heading home, I'd stop at that point and do the whole top at a later time.

FWIW.
