For one I never recommend a microfiber mitt. The knap is not long enough to pull the dirt far enough away from the paint.
The Foam Gun pre soaks the car with foam which lifts a lot of the dirt away from the paint.
Yes, it will work with your garden hose.
The Gilmours run about $50 or more but they are very good quality and have adjustments to increase or decrease the amount of foam.

I recommned something like a wool mitt or I am really liking the Lake Country Ulti-Mitt.
I just used my foam gun to wash my vinyl siding this past week actually. I use it to spray cleaners on the driveway, grill, patio furniture, and awnings.

I just got my foam gun about a month ago and I have used it for the same reasons also plus pre soaking my vehicles. Gilmour foam gun is what I recommend and it goes great for a foam gun using the water hose.

Egleone6- I've used my foamgun with all sorts of mitts- MF, sheepskin, and cotton chenille. But I still prefer to do the first pass with a BHB, shooting the suds through the bristles at the point where they contact the paint.
Some people use the foamgun primarily for a presoak, but I use it to provide constant flushing and lubrication. The idea is to "dislodge and flush" dirt off, as opposed to "scrubbing" it off.

You can get some sheepskin mitts at walmart for like 5-6 bucks. They work really well.
