Foam Gun vs. SS&S, TOL, CG, and Optimum

We've had crappy weather in DE the past few days. This evening GBG TL and I 'foamed up' 4 rides: STS, Tahoe, MDX, and Venture.

The more I use the foam gun the more I like it -and I had my doubts!

Here's a mini review:

We used 4 products via the foam gun: all mixed with 4oz of car wash (which is a lot, but they were dirty hogs!!). The gun was rinsed out with hot water and Vinegar between uses.

Boy, was I enlightened!

The rank (based on our use):

1) SS&S -The clear winner. Suds & slickness galore. I really like TOL BB, but SS&S via the foam gun was AMAZING! I hate paying close to 50 bucks for car wash (plus shipping), but SS&S changed my mind (again) tonight. It really is an excellent product.

2) CG's Ultimate Body Wash: Excellent suds & slickness. I put it at #2, because it contains polymers/wax, which I'm not putting on top of my Z finish (at least not yet).

3) TOL BB -Decent suds and slickness, but no where close to SS&S or CG's ultimate.

4) Optimum. Good slickness, but next to no suds. I'll say no more.

Can anyone post pics of what the car looks like immediately after shooting it with the foam gun? My parents got me a foam gun from Brookstone for my birthday this year. I have had a chance to use it once so far, with Meg's Gold Class Car wash. I was not overly impressed, although it wasn't horrible (especially since it was only $25). Just curious if I am expecting too much (think foam party) or if it is on par ith some of the other guns out there.

Thanks,
Neil

I'd be curious to see how Meguiars NXT and Four Star Ultimate stack up when using the foam gun.

I have a gallon of NXT, and will try it out too.

Patrick,

Sorry, no pictures this time. Maybe when it warms up a bit. When it gets dark the surface temp drops quick and I didn't want the water/soap freezing on the paint.

I bought that exact same gun, for the same price at brookstone too!

It is definately a waste. You have to make sure you hold it right side up, because if not you end up mixing soap into the water even with the valve closed.

Its the same quality and plastic as the 7.99 foam gun that they had at walmart.

I still have it, but only use the little container for measuring the soap dillution for my wash.

I might upgrade to the Butcher's foam gun, especially since someone posted a link to a site that had ti for $39. That little Brookstone plastic container is handy for measuring out liquids, lol.

mgm2003, what is the name brand of your new gun? Where did you purchace it and for how much?

I purchased the Gilmour Gun from Steve at Poorboys. $52 + shipping. Our local Lowe's sells Gilmour quick disconnects, shut off valves, splitters, etc.. so I purchased those items locally. If you search on the net, you may find a better price on the Gun. I purchased from Steve because if I tried it and didn't like it, he'd work with me.

Thanks! I've heard a lot of good things about that sponsor. I think for 52 bucks, I will try one from him too ;)
