Foam Gun Video

Wow.....

(/sarcasm) How informative... I had no idea that you pulled the trigger and sprayed the truck... (/off sarcasm)

If it doesn't load, you didn't miss anything. A guy spraying his truck with a foam gun. No narration, just foam and a truck. :D

I think the video does serve a definate purpose, if someone doesn't have a foam gun, or is contemplating getting one, they can watch the video to find out that it does produce more foam than one would think.

...or less foam than one would think. Don't get me wrong, I have and use a foam gun, it's just not what I thought it was going to be...like a lot of people, I thought it was going to be more like shaving cream or something, when in reality, it's more like a foaming sprayer that might come on a bottle of Windex (for example purposes). Some people have described it more like sudsy water rather than foam--I think the video is instructive for showing people what to expect. The more difficult sell from watching the video is convincing people there IS an advantage to spraying "foam" on your vehicle, especially on the sides...where you would never be able to get as much wash solution between the mitt/pad and the paint by using a bucket.

FWIW, My intention was not to start a debate on whether or not the gun was worth it, I just thought others might find the video interesting.

Good video....I should be looking into a foam gun pretty soon....Got a couple questions regarding these tho....

From what I've read...The purpose of a foam gun is to cut down / eliminate the amount of swirls / marring that CAN come from the washing process (ie getting grit caught in a wash cloth)..

Now....After you've foamed the entire vehicle, you're supposed to go over this with as wash mitt, using the foam as the soap (from what I've read this was my understanding)

But in reality, isn't there just as much chance of marring your paint with a foam gun method (then using the mitt to scrub the foam) as apposed to the hand washing (Ie a double or triple bucket method)....The majority of your marring will probably come when you start using your mitt on the paint. IF there is any grit there (that's either on the paint on on your wash cloth) you still have the same chance of marring it..

As our fellow autopian, Accumulator put it, washing is essentially like trying to get sand off a glass surface without touching it (or moving the sand over the glass)...Everytime your put your mitt overtop of the sand/glass (again using this analogy) you've got a chance of marring your paint...

So how does a foam gun "lift" these particles off the dirt so your mitt can simply breeze them off...Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the foam guns use.....It just makes sense in my head that anytime you've running your mitt over a surface with any sort of particles trapped between the surface, you've got a chance of putting in micromarring...

If I'm not making myself clear let me know and I'll try to explain in a different way :)

Even from the video you can tell it's significantly faster using htis method...But does it prevent as much marring as say the double or triple bucket method of washing a car with a mitt?

Perhaps someone could explain further??

Great thread, and I can't wait to see the answer to the above post...I just recieved my foamgun from danase...Gave it a quick go and the pressure was less than I expected...but overall I am happy. It was rather cold last night so I may even have some ice in the hose somewhere cutting down on my pressure. Overall...I think I am going to be rather happy with the foamgun. (BTW those who are looking to order a foamgun...Bob is a great sponsor to work with, very helpful and it's a great way to support him for providing us with great products!!)

Two things I noticed about the video.

First, I don't typically spray the entire car before starting to wash. As you can see in the video, by the time he was finished spraying, foam/suds were already dripping to the ground. I'll spray ahead a much smaller section of the car so more of the foam/suds don't run-off. If my car is dirtier than normal, I'll spray the entire car. If it has some bird droppings, I'll spray them first.

Second, I get better suds/foam than what appears in the video. I mix about 4 oz. of Gold Class in the 1/2 gallon jug of the Simple Green foam gun and use the strongest settting of the side bar. I'll use the entire 1/2 gallon of this mixture for one car. I probably use more soap to get more suds/foam but I feel soap is cheap. With more suds/foam, I also what I will call more 'hang time', meaning the suds/foam drip down slower.

where is a good place with a good price on the foam gun? i looked at danase.com and its out...where else can i buy one from? the more i read this forum, the more money i spend. i'm finding out all this stuf that i didn't know i need. its getting tough to explain to the wife.

Very interesting but it raises two questions:

1. Is the cleaning better with the gun or is it just the convenience of placing the suds on the car in a faster process?

2. Do you wet the car before using the gun or do you shoot it dry?

hehe yeah, I was surprised by the lack of suds. It looks more like what I get from running soap through my pressure washer. I thought it would cling to verticle surfaces for minutes on end.

1. I presoak the car using the foam gun.

2. After I presoak, I begin washing the car by aiming the foam at the area I'm washing WHILE I swipe the panel.

3. I do this so there is ALWAYS a constant stream of suds/water/foam between the mitt and paint.

Hope this helps.

I didn't know my foam gun could be used for painting hehe ;)

All kidding aside, it sounds like a great technique..Im going to have to try that out.

I had some questions on the vid. Obviously he is washing indoors. Dont you have some worries about washing outside and spraying down the whole car with the foam gun. Dont you worry about the soap drying before you can get around the whole car with your mitt??

Also when using the foam gun, does the whole "two bucket" wash method go out the window?
