Foam Gun people

I am thinking of getting a gilmour. I think its the one with 75 in it. I want the metal brass one, not the plastic one. A lot of people on here have the brass piece one. Do you think this is a waste of money if someone does not have a power washer? It looks like it works awesome with a power washer. This good to use with a regular hose?

You can't use the gilmour foam gun with a pressure washer. You need a foam cannon for that. I have the exact foam gun you mentioned and I use it with a regular hose. It gives good suds but not the thick foam you see from a foam cannon.

If you've got decent water pressure, the foam gun is cool. I have the Gilmour one, and I love it. I haven't had the chance to use it in months and months due to a watering restriction, but it is fun. I dont make a habit of washing my cars with a pressure washer, so I have never tried the foam lance.

blownvert i went to gilmour web and got mine it's brass and 1/2 gal. for $42.23 plus shipping. It's a great tool to have love mine.(Catalog#75HGFMR)

does it really make a difference between using a foam gun and just spraying the car down with water and then wiping it down with a mitt? I know foam gun i guess would help break down dirt with suds everywhere before wiping it down.

I don't have the power wash version, I just have my regular hose attached and it works ok. I don't think that it is all that much better than just a regular rinse IMHO.

Noting that different people use the foamgun differently...

The presoak/touchless cleaning feature is worth something, but it's not the primary reason/fucntion of the foamgun *for me*.

For me, the purpose of the foamgun is to provide constant flushing and lubrication, with the "foam" being sprayed between the wash media and the panels. The idea is to "dislodge and flush" the dirt away with minimal pressure/contact.

The two things that really got my attention (after I got my technique sorted out, which did take quite a few washes) were 1) hardly *any* dirt in my rinse bucket- the dirt gets flushed away instead of being trapped in the wash media (which could lead to marring as the contaminatated media gets moved across the paint) and more importantly, 2) a dramatic decrease in wash-induced marring- I simply don't have to polish my vehicles on a regular basis any more, even after a nasty winter (and I inspect under lighting that's a lot less forgiving than the halogens that most use for their final inspections).

In the foam gun video, is that how everyone does it. you spray the foam gun when you wipe the car in a vertical motion, so it becomes more lubricant? i thought maybe you can just spray the whole car and then just take your wash media and put it in bucket like normally do and just wash it like that.

Nah, I do it as described above and in my "Accumulator's Non-Marring Wash Technique" thread in the Hall of Fame forum (I think the foamgun stuff might be on the second page, I forget..).

That is true for the one made of plastic with a 1/4Qt. jar (Catalog#75QGFMR) Mine is made with brass and 1/2gal. jar. Why not pay $10.00 more dollers and get a better one

Note that, with regard to the shampoo cup, bigger might not be better. With my method I can't use a larger cup, it'd hit the paint when I'm holding the nozzle next to my wash medium.

I guess your right BigJim. Mine is 1/2gal. not a 1/4Qt. It's steal a good deal if you would like the 1/4Qt. or 1/2 Gal.

i have this one and LOVE IT:drool: . very good quality and works like a charm. i use eagle 1 car wash with it and it foams like a fire truck (i have great water pressure). for $50.00+- you can not go wrong. simple attachment to hose and good to go! :spot

I got the brass Gilmour unit.

I love it; makes a great presoak with regular hose and water pressure.

I use it with Meg's Hyper Wash; diluted slightly; at the lowest setting I still get a nice clinging foam that aids in turning loose dirt and softening the grime. Seems to really allow the dirt to "turn loose" a LOT easier.
