Does this happen to anyone else??? I've tightened the screws as much as possible, but when I really put my weight into the handle, every so often it does this and crushes my knuckles....

Yeah it's happen twice to me b4. Not sure if we should be pushing down as hard as we do on it. The handle is poorly made in my opinion. But yes it has happen to me and it ****ING sucks when it does.

Must be applying a lot more pressure than I ever would, unless somethings amiss  I can't help but wonder how things like the ring gear are wearing, have you opened it up and looked recently?

umm...short of any defect in your unit, I believe you're putting way too much pressure on it....I mean, I'm known for not knowing my own strength and when I polish I realized that sometimes I put upwards of 25lbs pressure (recently decided to blindly push down on the machine on a scale with usual pressure I use to see where my estimations are) and my handle hasn't done that...

I also tend to hold the handle closer to the inside base of the handle(between the machine and handle) rather than the very tip...

Might be worth sending the mftr a message and see if you can get replacement parts or something--because the last thing we need is for people's knuckles to get shredded =[

:nana:Hey He-Man.:chuckle: Is the handle stripping? I had that happen to me on the griots. LOL I got lots of down force with all my fat butt behind it. lol Maybe order a new handle and watch the pressure. How is that m3 coming?

It's mighty mouse to you, mr. action hero- and i'm about finished with her.

No, nothing is striping, although you can see in the 4 marks in the base where the handle rests against it. I guess i'm just putting to much *** into into it.

From looking at the last photo of the handle's inner "ribs" against the housing, it would appear that you've worn that area away, and that a new handle may not solve your handle-slipping "problem". You could try "roughing up" the areas where those ribs are suppose to rest against by "dimpling" some of the plastic on the housing with small punch and hammer. Just a thought. I know trying to over-tighten the screw is NOT a good idea because once the threads are stripped in the head, it's "game over". I don't know if the threads in the head are tapped directly into the head metal, OR if its a threaded insert (Like a Helicoil insert) used to make stronger tapped holes in softer materials like aluminum or plastic. IF the insert is stripped or if the threads or knurling holding the insert are stripped, you've got a much more difficult situation to resolve, and a new handle and screws will not solve your dilemma.

As far as reducing the pressure you place on the handle, that's up to you. If you've accomplished better results by doing what your doing, it would be hard to change. However, if you're a real "He Man" and have that "better-than-super-human strength", maybe it is time to re-evaluate your technique , even though it will probably take more time to complete the job using less pressure. Your personal experience with the frequency of smashed knuckles and putting up with them while trying to work through a day using your Flex will determine your decision. (Sounds like some lawyer wrote that)

I would definitely try to modify my grip to apply pressure directly behind the spindle and not at the end. Applying pressure on this machine off center will eventually ruin the gears as well as your knuckles. I also need to use less pressure with Surbufs.
