First Time Using Rotary

This is my sisters car not sure of the year 01 or 02 VW jetta, I told her when she was done paying it off I would make it look like new. I just took a few pics of the trunk, I still have to add some protection.

I used dewalt with SSR2.5 on about 1000-1300 with blue edge pad

Then I used PC on 4 to 4-1/2 with SSR1/polishing edge pad

I am pretty impressed with the results, the rotary worked so mush faster then PC and removed the tuff stuff and left very little haze. The PC cleaned it up very nicely.

I'll post more pics when I wax or seal it up! what should I use???

I have vmw, ex, exp, upp, s100, gc, #26, sg, just a few off the top of my head.

it happens. Nowadays, if the car isn't an exotic, or if 10 hours wasn't spent on it correcting the paint, people aren't "entertained" by it.

All I see is 50/50 shots of the trunk. Looks much better.

My issue was that the sun was highlighting the swirls so I did not see the 50/50 until it was mentioned.

After I saw the 50/50 then I saw a difference. Good Job. PB EX is the choice for me.

A good first try :up

I am curious why did you use a PC to 'clean up' the work from the rotary? A rotary is able to finish up nicely with a right pad and product.

Either way, a good first try :2thumbs:

This is my personal opinion : The 1st two pics are the 50 / 50 shots correct? It seems like there are still some swirls left. If it's still there, give Meguiar's M85 + wool pad a shot, follow up with M83 + foam pad ( both on rotary ) and M80 ( or any finishing polish of your choice ) + foam pad a try. Sorry for I cannot recommend other brands as I'm used to the Meguiar's products.

I agree guys it was hard for me to take good pics. The third pic shows how bad the swirls are, that the section I didn't polish.

The rotary finished nice, but for some reason If looked at very close, you could see some micro-marring or hazing, but very little, in some areas a little more then others. So i played it safe and SSR1/PC/polishing took care of it with little effort.

After washing the car it looked very bad! like someone had used a sand bucket to wash it! very dull and very deep scratches. after I was done with one side of the car, you could clearly see the diff. The car had that clear reflective shiny glow.

being it was my first time and the machine is a beast and i was a little afraid, but after a few sections and a few little hops, and machine pulling in differ directions a few times, I no longer feared it.

I believe that some section may have got a little dry on me while buffing, this caused the haze, because it was very minimal and not everywhere. But i followed up the entire car with SSR1.

After Doing the first section with the rotary you could see swirls were gone, with the exception of two to three larger scratches, and surface gloss was increased, even on parts with some haze/ or marring.

If looked at close you could see I polished the left side there is a tape mark, I cleaned off the other side of the tape line.

In my opinion it takes more than the right pad and product, it also takes the right skill/finesse. Final finishing with a PC is easier for some of us that don't own a shelf full of skillz. ;)

Nice work on the car, that last picture seems the worst though, is that the "before"? The half/half ones look like a nice improvement.

Yes the last pic shows how bad the swirls are. Thats the part that wasn't done.

I have to find a polish that works a little longer, I was using very slow speed and product was breaking down very fast.

Really need a polish that has a longer work time.

Most of the hazing/marring was IMO probably due to some dry buffing.

still have lots of learning with rotary.
