First time PC - Sanity Check

Ok, as a user of Zaino for the last couple of years (applying by hand) I'm ready to make the switch to using PC and Klasse. My car is a silver arrow 2001 Jetta; it has swirl marks but like most silver cars they are harder to spot.

The finish currently isn't bad but could use some improvement. After a harsh winter, there is pretty much no zaino left on the car.

Here is my plan; can I get a sanity check:

1. Wash with Dawn

2. Clay bar using Mother Clay bar w/Mother Quick Detailer

3. SSR2.5 with PC & Lake Country Orange Pad

4. SSR1 with PC & Lake Country White Pad

5. Klasse AIO with PC & Lake Country Black Pad

6. Klasse Sealant Glaze by hand

7. Have a beer

Wish I could help but I never was a Zaino'er, and have hung up on Klasse.......I do have a couple of suggestions though, I think you should have placed additional steps of beer in your technique. Ive often wondered why people didnt apply additional layers of beer in their sequences. It offers great relaxation, provides visual stimulation, sometimes better depth if enough layers of beer are added. I just dont get it.....

Im sure youll be happy with the SSR's. Is it necessary to go with the 2.5?

Good question.

Having never used any SSR product, I'm not entirely sure how strong of a product I need.

I'm also concerned with matching the right pad with the right product.

Also, good call with the beer. Adding those steps for sure.

i am also a new pc user. i got some really good instruction from lynn over at bettercarcare.com. my paint had moderate swirls. i tried using a polish that was too agressive and it made the paint worse. i switched to good pads and a better polish and my black paint has never looked better.

what i can say is, use the lightest polish first on a test area to see if it will do the job. also, lynn showed me that i can use a fine pad with a swirl remover polish to get more gloss. using a heavier pad will go after the swirls faster but it will knock down the gloss. that was my experience.

Over time, you'll learn about polishing oils, and products that have more than others......If the SSR line is your choice for polishes, i would highly recommend starting with 2.0 at the most. Become familiar with the product(s) and go from there. Dont just jump right in, dip your toes in the water first !

Beer.......:woot:

My stand by to polish me off :p

Wait that didn't sound right :o

Ok tnx, I'll start with SSR1, since I only have 2.5 and 1 on hand. I'll see how that goes.

You could try to find some 3M Perfect It-3000 swirl mark remover. It is more agressive then SSR1, but less then 2.5, ive never used SSR 2, but it is most likely pretty close to that, and it is pretty user friendly:xyxthumbs

Thanks for everyone's help today.

I ended up using SSR2.5 at certain tough spots. SSR1 on the entire car. Followed by AIW & SG. The whole process with the washing and claying took about 5 hours.

I like the car and I like the color, but I'm not seein' much reflection off of the paint. Maybe if you took the pictures pictures on the sunny side of the car instead of the shaded side.

Very nice. I'll be doing my first SSR experience this weekend and also only have 2.5 and 1. I'll start with 1, but I think I'll end up with 2.5. Better to not make the mistake to begin with though :)

You're car looks awesome! Pictures never do them justice.

I have both 2.5 and 1. The 2.5 can stand by itself with an orange pad, but 1 really enhances the gloss.

Here is a before and after of 2.5 + AIO + Soverean. I did the 2.5 about 3 times.

Shine could have been better... but it was better in person. I had one coat of SG when I took the picture. A 2nd coat made it nicer.

I think I still need to work out how to remove SG better.

The leave-on and WOWO methods both seem difficult.

I'm sorry if this is an ignorant question but why do you need to use Klasse AIO?

Isn't klasse AIO also a polisher? Why polish with SSR and then polish again with klasse?

Also when you say you did SSR2.5 and then SSR1, are you going over your entire car with SSR2.5 and then going over it again with SSR1? If so, isn't that also kind of redundant?

Again, sorry if these are dumb quesitions..

My take on this, by far I'm no expert...

Yes they are all 3 polishers, but each has a different purpose and cutting grade. The SSRs are indented to work well with removal of swirl marks. SSR2.5 has a higher cutting grade than SSR1. SSR2.5 can get rid of major swirls or scratches, but this can mar the paint. SSR1 is gentler and will usually smooth out any marring caused by SSR2.5. AIO cleans, polishes and has a layer of acrylic protection.
