first engine detail

Hey this was my first engine detail and unfortunatly it was done on a car that is almost 10 yrs old and my dad never touched under the hood so it was a disaster in the beginning. I now own the car and i finally got up the courage to do it. i covered everything i thought would give me a prob (distributer/open wires) with foil and started. i used gunk foaming degreaser for old dirty engines. it got most of the stuff off and i was surprised how good it looked. I bought some new foaming tire shine from armor all and coated almost everything and the results were amazing. Alot of the metal was very tarnished and weathered, but the rubber wires and covers shine like crazy. im looking at the pics now and they look nothing like how good it looks for a 10 yr old dirty SUV engine. i only have afters but u can get a general idea how it looks. the difference is amazing, wish i could get a good pic. i didnt have any luck getting off the grime and discoloration on the engine metal cover and alot of the tape is nasty looking even after being cleaned, but ill try to get some brighter pics up soon, heres the site

Don't put yourself down like that! For a first engine detail and on a 10-year old car, it's looks really good. Congrats!

Ye you did a great job, its a bit scarey to do an engine detail, you did more than I would dare. Your pics are fine, and show how clean you managed to get the engine which hadn't been touched for 10 years, we all know what an engine that hasn't been touched for many years looks like, so :xyxthumbs great job fella!

haha thanx alot, wish u could see it up close, that armor all foam left it lookin like it wet. any tips for that metal cover? i scrubbed like crazy but i think the dirt is just melted into the metal. up close everything else is fine, its just that whole cover looks nasty. i have some 303 cleaner on the way so maybe that would work better, thanx for the support :bow

it probably is then, i let the stuff soak for about 3 min. wish i could of done this 5 yrs ago, i would of if i knew i was buyin it off my dad.
