First Detail Attempt...

I finally attempted my first detail on my 2001 Lincoln LS. It took me a total of 6 hours (with many breaks since it was so freakin hot and humid today). Here's what I did:



1) Wash - Meguiars NXT

2) Clay - Clay Magic

3) Wash again

4) Poorboy's Professional Polish (by hand)

5) EX-P (by hand)



Products used:

Shampoo - Meguiars NXT

Carpet - Woolite (and Shop Vac)

Tire Cleaner - Mothers Professional Tire Spray

Wheel Cleaner - A2Z

Tire Shine - Turtle Wax Wet N' Black

Interior - 303 Protectant

Leather - Lexol Leather Cleaner (didn't work very well)



I really need to get a PC...my arms are killing me. I also just ordered some SSR1 and SSR2 today, which I need to remove some minor swirls in my paint.

I used 6:1 dilution. First I dampened the mats, then I sprayed the mats with the Woolite soultion and scrubbed with a stiff bristle brush. I let the soap sit for about 5-10 minutes then I used the shop vac to extract the stains. The mats actually turned out better than I thought they would. I guess that I will use that method until I can afford an extractor.

Im going to have to try the woollite for sure,ive been seeing great results with it.

so let me get this right 6oz water to 1oz woollite??



The Lexol is supposed to be good stuff? Ive been using the Meguiars for my seats ,which seemed to never have been cleaned by PO ,Ive found that a soft bristled detail brush to help scrub them has helped 100%.I even had some tar on my jeans on day and it smeared on the seat.Took it right off.

I dont know if the brush is good for the seats or not ,but its the only way I see to get them clean right now.



Keep up the great work .I hope somebody comes in with some leather cleaning info :D
 
BRUHA give the Water : Woolite ( 6:1) on the leather a try.. it will suprise you on how well it cleans.



On a lot of the mats I do that are stained I use the woolite solution and a stiff brush followed by a clean terry towel to transfer the stain then I follow occasionally by laying the matt on the road and sprinkling Tide w/bleach on them and scrub again then I hang them on a low wall / fence and hose them to rinse .. then I leave them to dry .. once dry ( usually by the time the detail is done I use my shop vac to fluff them up and pull up any residual moisture. .



I have done my own mats with Tide like this for years and no problems ( GM/Toyota/VW) . Works on trunk mats too
 
is it ok to use this process on carpets/seats also? I will be taking out my seats so I can get to all of the carpet.
 
I don't think I would use the Tide and a hose on the seats and carpet .. they may shrink .. the matts don't because of the backing.
