First black car, first time buying....

This is my first post, so bear with me! :D

This is all a bit overwhelming for me. I've owned 4 SUV's in the past 5 years and I always went to the DIY carwash and hosed em down when I wanted them clean.

I recently purchased a new black VW Jetta, which I'd love to keep shiny. I started compiling a list of things I wish to purchase based on browsing the forums, but I want to make sure I am in good shape before I order.

Here is my list so far:

1) CA Water blade

2) Clear Pearl Instant Detail Spray

3) MagicTowel MF towel

4) Eimann Fabrik Carpet & Upholstry Cleaner

5) 303 Aerospace Protectant (I want a matte finish on my interior vinyl)

6) Microfiber Wash Mitt

7) Zaino (Z2, Z5, Z6, ZFX)

8) Some shampoo (Not sure)

9) Foam applicators

What else do I need? I live at an apartment so I have to go to the DIY still, so ease of use is going to rank pretty high.

Also, I don't need crazy show-room shine, just a nice, swirl-free finish.

Thanks for any input you provide!

I would dump the water blade too risky in causing scratches. Not to sure about the microfiber mit either. Probably better off with the chenille on tha CMA sells it is much more plush and would probably trap dirt better. Meguiers gold class is a good car shampoo.

Add Z7 as your wash and maybe consider cotton applicators for the Zaino especially with black. Find a friend who will allow you to use their driveway to wash your car. Black is so unforgiving that one bad wash will literally ruin your finish. Unless you can use proper washing technique let the car remain dirty. A swirled-up clean black finish actually looks worst than a shiny dirty swirl-free black finish. JMO

By the way welcome to the world of black cars.:xyxthumbs

I agree, dump the water blade. Make sure you invest in some high quality MF towels. Also get a cotton chenille wash mitt, they are the "safest" of all wash mitts.

blackrex - I PM'd ya!

I read decent things about the MF Mitt, that's why I chose it.

CMA stated, "Our Ultra-plush Microfiber Wash Mitt is softer than cotton chenille and softer than sheepskin" Any experience with it?

I love the MF wash mitt. CMA wasn't kidding when they said that it was soft. The only downside is that it can be a little difficult removing foreign objects that get lodged in its pile while washing.

What do you think, 2 MagicTowels for drying and a set of Viper MF Detailing cloths for windows/removing wax?

You will need a lot more towels than that. I am not a big fan of the viper towels. I like Magic Towels but they are a little price. For the $$$ neatitems towels are a good deal. www.neatitems.com I would get a few magic towels (4-6) and the rest can be neatitems.

Yeah, I noticed that they are a bit pricey. Are they good for drying <strong class='bbc'>and[/b] removing wax/polish?

Yes they are good for drying, removing polish and wax and also glass. I like to keep my towels seperate for each job. Meaning if I use a towel to remove polish I will only use that towel for that purpose in the future.

WARNING: the chenille that I tried (I don't recall the brand) left lint on all the weather-stripping on my Jetta. A major pain to take it off...until I got my MF towels from CMA which worked wonders.

Edit: Never use the forms after a whiskey bender.
