You might be able to breathe with a halon activation...but even wiith a concentration of 5 to 7%, it still displaces oxygen.
Normal room air contains 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, with the other 1% the rest of the gasses that make up the atmosphere. Serious lapses in judgement due to oxygen deprivation can occur at just 18 to 19% oxygen. 21% minus 5 to 7% equals a 14 to 16% O2 level...not enough to sustain life, not to mention the products of combustion in the room.
I thank you for designing fire and life safety systems that make my job a lot easier...now, if we could only get the industry to standardize on a single key to reset fire alarm pull stations and open fire alarm annunciator panels....
