finally used ONR

i used ONR yesterday for a detail...definitely impressed. it served four purposes for me:

--pretreat heavily soiled areas (QD strength...6oz/gal ratio)

--standard ONR wash

--assist polish removal during PC use

--QD wipedown after all polishing done

the vehicle was black and i saw no wash induced marring from it. very impressive, considering a soft detail brush i tried to use on some trim (to remove old wax the owner put on years ago) marred the paint easily.

in QD strength, it worked equally as well as PB S&W or DG FC&S...but the cost is unbeatable considering how much you can make from a gallon of ONR.

no smearing, no residue...and the smell was no where near as bad as i thought it would be after reading all of the negative comments about it on here.

overall...VERY pleased with it!

:2thumbs:

Me too. I used it as a clay lube, then as a QD to clean the X up before applying Menzerna AJ. I'ts some pretty nice stuff, and will last a long time.

The giant jug of Meg's Gold Car Wash shampoo has been sitting in my garage, almost full, since I bought ONR 3 months ago. Gotta love this product!

I used to compete on inline speedskates indoors at roller rinks and I got hooked on the smell of the coating of the wood floors called "Roll-On." ONR reminds of that. It takes me back to my glory days....ahhh...

I think ONR is better for your paint than car wash soap. Well at least the way most people use car wash soap. All those suds require more rinising which itself leads to more marring and the extra contact of drying (if a towel is used) also adds to the marring. I think a rinseless wash is overall a less invasive ,if you will, way of cleaning the car. And really for an Autopian who is always on top of his paint a full hose and buckett wash is not always necessary, but the problem is that its still too dirty for a quick detailing. Even a car wash soap user should employ ONR as the frequent method of clearing debris from the paint

Maybe this is a dumb/newbie question, but how do you use this to wash the entire car without rinsing, especially if it's dirty?
The following threads are about QEW, but it is very similar to ONR and is used in the same way:

I haven't tried ONR yet, but QEW works very well. Looks like my next order will have to include some ONR since I'm getting low on QEW.

I finally ordered my first batch of it and will use it asap. For winter-time sessions, I like the idea of using it in a sprayer with distilled water to 'pre-treat' really bad spots, then using the regular method of using it.

Rinsing=marring? Explain...

well yes, but I did say "the way most people use car wash soap" that's meant to say they don't remove the nozzle. Using pressure to blow debris off the car will marr the paint.

I'm sure that if you never used a drying towel or wash mitt on a car and only used a touchless car wash sprayer you would still have marring swirling of the paint.

I guess its like anything, pressure+sediments, silicas from the road will etch the paint.

I've always wondered if you could use some sort of magnetic resonance using a lubricant like ONR to clean paint surfaces. I'm sure someone is working on it...

Interesting. I never really bought into that theory, but I suppose it is possible.

it's an acquired smell i think. and i have yet to acquire it because i still think it smells like s***

All the time I clayed and QDd after, I kept thinking what the hell was that smell, LOL

I've got some coming this week. I was going to do regular washes on my new car, until I found out the pressure wash area at my apartment that used to cost $1 for 4 minutes, is now is more of a super low pressure wash area, and they raised the price to $2 for 4 minutes. So screw that, I bought ONR to do my washes from now on. I can't wait to try it, and see the looks on the other residents when my car is sparkling after not even hitting the pressure wash.

I just got my order of ONR today and used it on two vehicles; my Silver Mazda6 and my Parents' White Regal. Neither car was very dirty, just leaves and dust and some rain-induced water spots. ONR worked great! I was able to wash and dry both cars with just two MFs and 2-gallons of water. The ONR lifted the dirt right off the paint and seemed to leave behind a little slickness. I also noticed a slight increase in the shine of both vehicles. I will continue to use ONR through-out the winter. I am also anxious to mix up some ONR QD and Clay Lube. If my initial results are any indication, ONR will have a place in my arsenal all season long. Really impressed so far.
