Final thoughts/good bye on McKee37 paint coating

Good Bye

Back in April 2016 I applied McKee37 paint coating to my vehicle. I used CarPro Essence as the polish, followed by MK37 coating and topped with CarPro ReLoad. 8-9 months later.. the coating is finally fading.

When I applied this coating, I wanted to put it through real world testing. This vehicle is used a kid hauler, travel vehicle, and takes a beating during wife`s coupon trips. I would treat it as a "regular" person would and only wash it every so often (which was nice because having kids does not give you time to wash as often). Before this final wash, it had gone almost 2 months without a wash. During the 8-9 month span, I would sometimes wash it once every 2 weeks-1 month.

My typical wash consisted of Meguiars Hyper Wash, blow drying and sometimes using FK425 as a spot drying aid. The vehicle did get a boost from Nanolex WashCoat around the 4 month mark. Besides FK425 and Nanolex Wash Coat, it has not seen any other type of LSP or boosters. I don`t even think FK425 really adds much protection anyways.

Conditions the vehicle would go through is your typical southeast Texas weather. Hot, humid, rainy, pollen and lots of bugs. The vehicle does have a garage but sees the road pretty often. Once or twice a month I would take a hour and half long trip to Houston, which include country roads and interstate 10. I took a trip a month or so ago to Dallas and clocked close to 1000 miles total. I think in totals mile since coating has been applied would be 11k-12k miles.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I enjoyed McKee37 paint coating very much. I started using MK37 coating on most of the vehicles I polish. I find that is quicker to apply then a wax/sealant, don`t have to worry about staining trim and will probably outlast any wax/sealant. The cost is low ($35), it is very easy to use, 1 bottle will do about 5-6 vehicles, and it is quite hydrophobic.

Only 9 months? Seems disappointing since it`s supposed to last 2 years. I didn`t have great luck with PBL, either as it only lasted 6 or so on my mom`s car.

For $35, meh.. I wasn`t disappointed. I didn`t use the MK37 prep polish, don`t know if that makes any huge difference or not. I already had expectations of it not lasting 2 years so I wasn`t surprised. Was hoping to make at least 1 year though

9 months is still respectable relative to the cost

I`ve thought about adding this product as a standard lsp on polishing jobs bc its so cheap and easy to use

I personally take anyone`s claimed durability time and cut it in half and hope to get that, but that`s just me

I don`t work on many nice/high end vehicles so it fits my budget nicely.

I think both Mckees and PBL are more super sealant than true coating.

Funny you mention that because when I`m applying, it would flash and leave no residue or any high spots. Almost like a WOWA type sealant (opti seal, BF crystal seal). I still wipe the surface just in case.

I have experienced the same thing with PBL v1 and v2 ... I`ve even tried to high spot pblv2 , using it like a WW and nope, still flashed and no issues

I`ve got the original pbl version on Jens car.......

Seems like it`s still good, but who really knows with all the toppers.........

Curious to see if the performance returns if you were to do a decon wash.

PBL V2 has been holding up on my mom`s car that sits outside 24/7. One year and 2 months thus far. Gave it a decon wash at the one year mark. Used the coating booster every so often.

Was wondering same.

i got 26 months out of pbl v1 on my frontier. i had topped it only with a double dose of synergy at the 6 or 8 month mark

and I can almost guarantee you, her car is living off fancy toppers..but who cares, right? the pblv1 is potentially still the sacrificial layer initially on top of the clear....
question becomes, if/when that fails, does it bring the house of LSP toppers with it?

i tried nanoskin fine grade sponge and 3d bdx iron remover. nothing helped it

I got more "house" to throw on it....... :D

I wonder how the new CarPro Essence Plus would work on the McKees Coating now? If you have some could you try it out on the hood just to experiment?

wish i had some to try. i may have to order some to play with.

the vehicle will be sitting as is until i figure out which product combos i want to try next. not even sure how much longer i want to keep the vehicle itself lol

Have you tried WG Uber ceramic?

I have this impression that the thicker forms of coatings (C1, Gyeon Mohs, WG Uber, etc.) just last a heck of a lot longer than these more volatile spray coatings (PBL, McKee`s, DP). My experience with these types of coatings on DD is >1y with regular maintenance.
