FI-II Compound Safe on Whole Car??

I've never tried this before but I'm wondering if it would be adventagious to do this to my blazer as I have a number of spots all over the car that SMR just won't touch, but they aren't deep enough to use touch-up on. So my plan is to use a Meguiar's Red Foam Soft Buff Cutting Pad with some 3M FI-II on the PC to see what it will do for the whole car..... my only concern is if I will compromise the clear-coat in the process or if I will be safe??

help is appreciated. Thanks!

It should be perfectly safe to polish the entire car using FI-II. Has the car ever been rotary buffed? If not then you should not have any problems. :xyxthumbs

SL: yes, the car was rotary buffed once. When the original owner had it, it had the Ziebart Gold Shield Protectant applied (which involves high speed rotary polishing, and application of poly sealant with a DA polisher) when brand new. The dealer had this re-done before I took delivery (against my instructions...... but oh well.)

does this change your answer or should I still not have problems?? I've used the 3M SMR with my DA only once on it since I've had it (got it last December and haven't done much to it since other than using #20 and switching to Zaino)

Be sure to read up on FI-II application technique. It is great stuff, but you need to work the heck out of it to diminish the abrasives and polish out the haze its initial abrasive size will leave. If you have a whole Blazer to do, I don't think you can do it well by hand - your armn will fall off after the 1st panel. Use the buffer - and be prepared to put significant mileage on your cutting pad.

There are many threads about this previously - perhaps search n "FI-II technique diminishing haze"

If you work these abrasives for a long enough period of time, will they diminish enough so that there will be no haze left on the paint? or is it almost a necessity to follow up with SMR?
