Few Question and Introduction

Hey Guys,

I just registered (wish I had known about the discount you get before ordering things this past monday..oh well...next time. :p )

I recently purchased a PC 7336 with a bunch of white polishing pads as well as bonnets, and 3M Finesse it II...I will be doing my first claybar, polish, All In One, Wax detailing this weekend and was trying to get some tips regarding what speeds on the PC I should be using. I swear I searched "speed" and "Orbital" but didnt come up with much in the way of results...

If anyone can give me some pointers on what speeds to use for each product as well as if I should be varying the speeds throughout each product's application I would really appreciate it.

Finally....I plan to tape off my mouldings with Painters tape while taking care of the paint...but then afterwards when I go to shine my mouldings...can I put painters tape directly onto the freshly detailed paint...or would that be a bad idea?

Thanks so much in advance....

I plan to stick around and learn from all of your experience.

I use Klasse AIO on speed 3-4 most of the time. I used it on 6 once, but that was for bad oxidation removal.

I've never used FI-II, so I can't comment on that.

I don't think there would be any problem with putting painter's tape on the freshly detailed paint. It should come right off with no residue.

I'm more of an Estroil fan, but a blue E36 M3 is a blue E36 M3 :D

With the polishes, use the PC on 5-6. Experminet a little with drying time of the polish, and affectiveness. For AIO- same as polishing. For waxing- I apply it by hand. If you want to use the PC, use a finishing pad on 3-4. You only need enough speed to spread the product.

For taping off moulding- not really necessary for the PC. Just work over the mouldings and take a MF towel along the cracks to get any residues out. It'll take way less time or effort than taping the trim. Be careful around badging though.

Check out the VA/DelMarVa thread I have. Should be on the front page.

RogueM3- I can't remember if FI-II stains black trim or not, been a long time since I've used it. *Perhaps* better safe than sorry, I think I'd tape it during the polishing step.

I wouldn't tape freshly detailed paint. Even the good blue and green tapes will leave *some* residue. As MongooseGA said, just use the AIO on the trim too (FWIW, I top it with KSG, lasts a long time on exterior trim). Products like that don't run in the rain the way dressings can. You might be able to top the AIO with your wax, some stain trim but many don't. Use a w-o-w-o approach whenever putting a LSP on black trim.
