I gave the small car its first wash in a week and a half and broke out a new Viking cotton chenille mitt for the task. This is the second Viking mitt I've tried and both ended up with a tangled mass of thread/chenille inside that literally prevented my putting the mitt back on before I finished the wash. With the less than 40 degree cold putting the hurt on me I decided to use the mitt like a sponge so I could get back indoors ASAP. Well, the mitt works even better this way. It pretty much grabs you so that the likelihood of dropping is about nil. Also, you've effectively doubled the plushness so you've minimized the chances of a thin area and a piece of grit scratching the finish.

Try it, you might just like it!

I don't use the mitts as mitts because you can't avoid going over the paint twice with the same part of the mitt. I bend the mitt into a J shape to start with, just barely holding the short side of the J in one hand, supporting the weight of the other side higher above the panel with my other hand. Then I slowly move it across the paint surface, moving the mitt like a conveyor belt until it looks like a U and finally like a backwards J by the end of the panel.

I then flip the mitt to the other side, make sure it has lots of suds and do it again. This is pretty much like QD washing and works very well for very dirty cars, but you should do it a couple of times on dirty cars as it will not remove all of the dirt the first time.

I never stick my hand inside. I much prefer using it as a sponge type thingy. I use mitts because I prefer the size over a typical sponge. Actually the best car wash tool I ever used was a lambswool washing square. That thing was like 12"x12" and worked great. But I killed it eventually and never could find one again so I went to mitts which are almost as good.

Personally I prefer lambswool to chenille but all the lambswool mitts I've used are lousy so I'll stick to chenille until I am reunited with my long lost love.

Puterbum, I'm sure that there are dozens of individuals here who have tried it "your way." It's just that we can't possibley respond to EVERY POST. I know that even I don't read all the threads here. Well maybe 95% of them. Laters

puter: yea the the way I use a mitt. Always have used them that way. Just be careful to not let the elastic part where you put your hand in rub around on the car.

You seem to be on quite the posting spree lately, wonder why that is...

I pick BFWD (obvious choice), it has super easy application, top notch slickness, a great 'look' to it, and its pretty durable.

On my own car I use Collinite 845, as it is cheaper than BFWD, although not without reason. It still looks good and is very durable, but can be a bit finicky to apply.

If you are talking about just wax, mine would have to be Poorboys Natty Red. When you consider the cost, and the looks, it is hard to beat. Now, if you are also taking into consideration sealants, it is without a doubt BFWD.

At this point, I only have about 10 LSP's under my belt, but the favorite Wax has been Collinite #915. Given my budget on waxes, and availability, the #915 has been a terrific wax for looks and performance.

Collinite #845 is also a winner and one that I use a ton of. 845 is very durable, and after enough practice is not too tough to use. I love the beading 845 has too.

I like Pinnacle Souveran, I have a Black 1996 Chevy Impala SS
and it really makes the paint stand out and is very easy to use

I'm going to assume you are using with word "wax" to include sealants and hybrids, so... here is my list in order:

1. BFWD - (once you go black... well, you know how it goes)! LOL

2. WG DGPS - (yes, I can hear the boos through the computer, but it is a good product).

3. Z2 Pro - I finally gave in to the zealots. I still think it is a big pain in the a$$ to use, but it looks soooooo good IMO and lasts forever.

4. FMJ - Just like BFWD, just doesn't last as long.

5. Fuzion - (see commentary to number 2).

6. NXT 2.0 - (Use to be my fave and still is amazing IMO but staining takes it a notch down for me).

7. Midnight Sun - I like it, but not with BFWD. I think it is better on its own.

8. Collinite 845 - The only Collinite product I like (sorry, but 476s was a disaster to me)

9. S100 - Whether its repackaged P21s or not, it is a nice wax.

10. ZAIO - (Luster's smile grows)

:Dancing Dot:

Best "Wax" = BFWD = "Synthetic" Wax

I don't ever use traditional waxes, carnubas, etc. because they just don't last. A month or 2 and they're gone.
