Factory Buffing

Sorry if this is a silly question, but...I was wondering if the factory, after the paint is applied and baked, hand rubs or buffs the finish to bring it up to gloss. I realize they can't match the process of a high-end builder such as Chip Foose or Boyd Coddington, but to what extent do they go to? And, do the methods differ for say, BMW and Ford? Thanks!

I don't know this for a fact but I think they polish the car after it has been painted.

I'm basing this off of the fact that Menzerna provides the polish that is used on new mercedes.

they do not polish the paint where I work. Only if there is a paint repair do they polish. The car body goes through three ovens to cure the paint. The hottest is about 370 degrees. There is always alot of orange peel. Most of the painting is by robots. We build 750 cars per day . I cannot say for sure ,but i doubt any mass produced cars are actually polished at the factory.

Marysville.....let me see....HONDA! I've owned 8 Honda's, and I've even got all my kids driving Honda's, but, somehow, and this is just my personal opinion, the legendary Honda quality seems to become more and more eroded with each new model. I tend to beleive it's due to their efforts to hold prices down. Still good cars, however. I know, off the subject.
