Hi guys,

ive been reading the "Learn" section and it was as iff all the anwers were in the next room but just out of reach. One thing im not sure of is this product.

Autoglym Extra gloss protection.

Its a petrolium based product that is clear and runny and smells a bit like white spirit. It says to put on a polished surface and then leave to haze for about an hour before buffing. It evoprates very quickly if left to pool or spilt.

Does this have a place in my new detailing schedule or is it just a "get shiny quick" type scheme.

The bottle claims it leaves a tough surface to protect your work. Ive used it a couple of times and it seemed OK but that was in the wash & polish - job done days.

Ive got plenty of different polishes, CW's, wax's etc In my search for a better ptroduct. Just wondering if this is somthing youd recomend using or not.

Cheers

Jonathan

As far as I know, EG should be used on either perfectly clean paint (like Klasse SG or Zaino), or after using Autoglym SRP first, since EG is supposed to be just the protection component that you are able to apply in multiple coats, but doesn't have any correction/cleaning ability as is normally required first.

Try searching for "autoglym" or "extra gloss", but if I recall right it's not a bad product, just not the best smelling.

Where's Accumulator when you need him? ;)

Heh heh, when you posted that I was probably sound asleep!

*I* haven't used the Autoglym EGP, just the SRP (which I DO really like), but I know a little about it from people who HAVE used it.

*I* would use it after the SRP. It's sorta like using the Klasse twins, you CAN use them separately, but they really work best together.

BTW, some people have mixed the SRP and the EGP to create their own "cleaner wax" that lasts a bit longer than the SRP.

However you use it, let the EGP set up as long as possible before buffing it off.

I just put the srp and eg on the hood of my Ody. The srp went on and off easily leaving a nice slick glossy surface. Then I put the eg on, it also went on and came off easy. I didn't notice a difference in the gloss level after the eg, if anything it may have deepened it. Autoglym is comparable to Klasse, both good quality products. Just a matter of which one you prefer. I'm going to try layering S100 over the srp to see how it looks.

Extra Gloss is designed to work with the Resin. The others are correct, leave the Gloss on for as long as possible, minimum one hour but longer is possible. The trick is to use thin layers, dont overload the pad as it makes it harder to remove and serves no purpose.

You can then layer the Gloss or top with wax or indeed both. Several people have reported great results with P21S, Blitz looks great but reduces the effectiveness of the sealant.

Ive used Eg quite a few times on clients cars. I found its a bit different than Klasse and Zaino in that it produces a very deep shine, almost like a Meg #26 or gold Class.

The shine deepens with every layer, I think 3 is optimal. Some clients in the past have wanted the protection of a polymer, with the deep look of a wax. Its a pain to buff off though. Apply as thin as possible.

Goood Luck
