Experimentation?

Hello,

I've been reading a lot on Autopia University and many talk about experimenting different technics and/or products.

My question is if polishing and repolishing, aplaying and reaplying wax/sealent/glaze, over and over again might damage my paint? :nixweiss

My cas has already been preped by the dealer:rolleyes: , taken to a detail shop  , detailed again by dealer's detailer:rolleyes: , and resently detailed by myself (with out the appropiate tool I might add. :nono ) So now I have my new PC and I'm waiting for some pads to come in, but I was wondering how much/ how many times can I experiment without hurting my car's finish?

Thanks.

Ricardo

P.S. Maybe I should experiment on my family's cars before my own:D But no one has got a black car:( .

Something that doesn't really get mentioned is that often, polishing is only done as much as necessary.

Usually people will only do a lot of polishing if their car needs it, such as if they haven't detailed it in months and it's accumulated some swirls that he/she wants to remove.

Otherwise a car is usually "experimented" on by prepping the paint with something very mild, just to strip off the old product or polish little bit to prep it. In this case, repeatedly detailing a car like this shouldn't be harmful.

If you keep collecting swirls and damage that needs to be removed though, you should look at why you're getting them and put a stop to it, as there IS a limit to how many times you can polish paint. A well maintainted "Autopian" vehicle will typically need only one aggressive polish session and, because of good washing and care methods, usually does not need as strong a polish the next time around.
