When I gave up having a garage queen/show car and bought a silver SUV to daily drive I was bored of detailing and needed a vacation from it. The poor truck was waxed once or twice and taken to regular car washes for several years of it's life (forgive me detailers for I have sinned). Then I bought a new garage queen and am once again obsessed and my truck got a full correction and proper sealant and looks better than it did when new.

Having a new car and some new products both lit the spark again for me. I won't do it again as a job though unless it's strictly full corrections where I have all the time I need to let me OCD shine haha.

Detailing my car is probably one of the last things that keeps me sane lol. My car is 12 years old and looks damn good for its age. When I park it next to other explorers from the same Gen and see how my paint actually has some pop to it it just puts a smile on my face.

When I detail cars for money at times it can be a drag but I think thats anything in life. But when I'm done and look back at what the once trashed car now looks like I feel like I did my job and its something to be proud of. I think once you start to look at it as a chore is when you start to run into problems. But as long as you keep the mindset that its for enjoyment, even when youre doing it for money, I think it really helps.

ever wonder is it worth it? neighbors/co workers think your crazy? spending way too much time/money on it?

Yes people think I am crazy but I love how slick my car feel after detailed.
It is very relaxing to spread a quality wax on car paint in a cool Saturday afternoon!

Once you set an example you have to continue. My neighbors always compliment my cars, but are also quick to chastise me when they are dirty.

I try to keep this hobby in some sort of moderation, as far as effort & money invested seeing as how it's just a hobby, but what good is a hobby if you don't enjoy it? :p

Yes I have currently. It was a tough winter and being in my senior of high school detailing pretty much went to last priorities. Now that more time has come around I am back at it, and realizing how much I missed since the fall..

I'm an enthusiast/fanatic.......its me I have to please.......and I can be a hard client......but its because I appreciate the results, that i can go to absurd lengths.....so if its on my car, i'm never bored, I just run out of time to clean things........

I recently put new all new brakes and rotors on my BMW.......a job that should have taken no longer than a couple of hours, take over six hours...........

I could not resist the opportunity to clean and detail the wheel wells, visible suspension parts and the inside barrels of my wheels.........

now, I keep my wife's car very clean, but would never think of regularly putting the same efforts into hers......she thinks a quick wash and vacuum is "nice".......and a weekend detail is "nice".........and then she drives it through every mud puddle on the way to the craft show eating french fries from McDonald's.....if its not appreciated, I can get bored.........

At this moment I have step back because of work and health problems lately. This must be the 6th time I have done this but always get the itch to come back. To all on this forum, always enjoy what your doing and feel great on what you have accomplish when doing this. I an working on a red car that had to get a windshield replace and paint corrected and hopefully get to post soon.

Strictly a hobby for me, I definitely caught the detailing bug. With two daily drivers ('04 Volvo S60, '10 Ford Edge) and a garage queen ('04 Mustang GT), I look forward to getting my technique down.

Can't say I've lost interest or gotten bored by any means but it has become more of a job for me.

with that said, my last job of ten years sucked. Boring insurance work behind a desk. Zero satisfaction.

Now I work hard for my clients, most of which are interesting characters who have nice cars. I turn work away at times and I'm still booked 2-3 weeks in advance. And its mostly correction and new car prep stuff which is what I'm looking for along with a basic wash / wax / interior day here or there to keep it interesting.

I just take way way way more pride in what I do now then I ever did as an insurance adjustor. So its a job, and a tough one, but I'm far from bored.

I guess you could say I've been burnt out for a few years. It got to where I didn't even touch my car and if I did, I would have to spend what seemed like hours trying to psych myself up just to give it a wash. It was like "what's the point, so you keep something nice just to have someone or something screw it up for you."

I guess it started when I fell asleep and totaled my 2002 Cavalier Z24. It was painted Corvette yellow and I put a sealant on it weekly, just to make myself happy. People thought it was a 2005 and didn't believe me when I told them it had over 106,000 miles on it. But after what seemed like years of having the wife ask me "are you done yet?" and then smashing it up in a split second putting myself in the hospital and the car in the morgue just knocked the bug right out of me.

Within the past month or so, I've started getting "the itch" again, and buying the Klasse twins and seeing the results has given me a bit of a kick in the butt. I can't say I'm ready to go all out again, and I don't think I'll ever get "into" doing interiors anymore, but at least it looks like I'm starting to get my hobby back. I already have 3 paid details scheduled (exteriors only) and I'm actually looking forward to them.
