Even Meg's Body Solvent Isnt Killing tar bits

So I've tried vinegar, Iso-Alcohol, citrus, and now Meg's Body Solvent. The stuff is great for really stripping the paint down of everything like fillers and such, but the tar I bought it to get rid of wont budge. Its almost impossible to get pics of the spots, they are like black or brown marks that are ALMOST flush to the paint, but they are there. Theres also a couple spots the size of a drop of water that are just thick black gunk that doesnt go anywhere no matter how long i let the solvent soak. How can I get ride of these buggers?

I've had remarkable results getting tar spots off with Zaino's Z-7 car wash.

If the various solvents aren't working to get the tar spots off, it's highly unlikely that a soap will do anything to it. If it does, then I would caution the gentleness of that soap.

My suggestion would be to get some Xylene and mix it 50/50 with some mineral spirits. Be sure to wax afterwards though and always try and inconspicuos area first to make sure there are no adverse effects to the paint.

From reading your first post, it appears that you are but, just for giggles you are letting the Meguiars Body Solvent sit for a while? It is not a wipe on, wipe off product. It needs to sit on the surface for a while in order to dissolve the crap on the paint. It also should not be dilluted, it is meant to be used straight.

Meguiar's Body Solvent changes the traditional method of removing tar, road grime, gum and other petroleum based substances. Instead of applying and scrubbing, its VOC compliant formula can now be sprayed on the surface, allowed to soak, penetrate and break down the contaminant, then wiped clean with ease.

rjstaaf, yea i let the stuff sit anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes trying different stuff. Some stuff came away, but the real tough stuff is still there. The Problem is its like a few small spots scattered around so its not like i see much progress from removing huge parts :(

sidious: have stoners tarminator, it did remove a good amount but the hard stuff wont budge.

Try some IPA. I used it to remove some dried up tree sap that had dried to the consistancy of two part exopy. You will need to re-seal after you are done.

I'll second the AutoPrep. Or try something like 3M's Prepsol/Adhesive Remover. I these won't remove it, it's probably something other than tar.

If 3m Adhesive remover won't take it off, a rotary certianly will. Use a light cut pad and OCP or IP, and they should come out. If they don't, Powergloss and a wool finishing pad. If they still don't come out.....live with em :).

I have been using the body solvent for a while now and even after letting it sit about 3 minutes you still have to scrub with a bug sponge to get heavier tar off the car. It is fairly decent, I just bought a jug of Tarminator in hopes that it will be more effective at removing tar and stuff from the runner boards. I want to be able to apply and pressure wash off the tar to save a little time but I don't think any product will keep from having to use elbow grease.

Try this, apply a solvent ( i mainly use Varsol for tar) and scratch off the top layer, it should then break down very quickly. If it doesn't then it might not be tar or it might be mixed with something else that they are putting on roads.

for stubborn tar, i use lamp oil. blot it on with acloth and let it sit for a few minutes and wipe the tar away. the kerosene in the lamp oil acts as a great wetting agent and doesnt dry up fast. 3.99 at walmart.

Kero or prep sol would be what I'd try. Your going to have to wax after it though. If that still leaves some try a polish and see if it takes it off. That fails its buff time.

if i cant get it off with the body solvent and more elbow grease, ill have to give these others a shot. the truck is basically stripped of all fillers/waxes/everything at the moment as it is due for some major upgrades and the most intensive detailing i have ever done, so whatever it takes to get this stuff off I will do. I know my paint is far from perfect in the lower portions like rocker panels, but overall its pretty good for being 11 years old. Is wetsanding a viable option to remove absolutely caked on specs? I may have need of wetsanding the lowest portions anyway to really fully bring them back

I've never ever come across any tar or other road gunk I couldnt get of with either kero - sol prep - or using the buff with some thing like Autoglym o3b and a megs red pad. And I've buffed thousands of extremley bad cars
