That is one funky looking automobile. 
When did they start making it? What kind of power does it put down?

Some tuned versions have up to 150 BHP. It may not sound that much but the car weighs only 1750 lbs. Main feature of this car is its power/weight ratio
The best thing is the sequential six-speed transmission which is operated by paddles on the Steeringwheel - F1 style! (yes, it also has a gearstick if you prefer that...)

The Smart range is available here in Australia but have not been good sellers. Aussie's tend to go for larger rear wheel drive cars although with the higher fuel prices a lot of people start to panic and switch to more economical cars.
