Epoxy finished floor in your garage.

Just wondering if any of you have done this yourself or hired a professional?
It looks nice when done properly by a pro...but can a weekend warrior get similar results?

Funny that you should post this. I was just researching epoxy flooring this morning and came across this site. If you scroll half way down the page you will see a link that reads "Compare Armorclad To Competition". It then brings up a PDF file that compares their product to some of the other products that are for sale at HD, Lowe's, etc. The name of the flooring is called Armorclad.

Ok Guys, remember that there is a no link to another site on this forum. So you need to removed these links and just post the product and where you got it....(.Like I got a epoxy floor kit name so n so from costco ..). Thank you all for support you all give here at TID.........

I have painted a shop floor with 2 part epoxy before. We simply pressure washed, and scrubbed the floor with citrus degreaser, then rolled it on-fairly thick-with a standard roller. Easy and looked good. Lasted a very long time. Going to do my garage with a epoxy primer that I got at a going out of business sale for $8 a gallon-origianaly $50. For the price there was no way I could pass it up. I wil get some of those colored flakes at Lowes to toss on also..:D

Angelo, sorry about that...my mistake. I thought that we couldn't post links to any sites that were in direct competition with you guys. I'll remove the link and re-read the rules.

Hey Rusty....are you doing your floor soon?

Let me know which brand you are going with. Sounds like you may be doing it yourself...please keep us posted on results.

Just out Sherwin Williams, They have a few floor coatings that will do the job perfect for you. Just remember that 95% for it to work properly is Prep-work!

My son is a painting contractor. He says he's done lots of different epoxy garage floors and Sherwin-Williams is the best he's seen. He always recommends it.

I had the painter use the Sherwin Williams beige tinted coating to coat my garage floor while building my new residence. It was applied over new concrete that had cured for approximately 6 months and was acid etched before applying the coating. It dried to a smooth, high gloss finish and is very easy to clean. It's only been down for 3 months so I can't comment on long-term durability but so far, I would recommend it.

Good question regarding "slippery when wet" ?

I sealed my concrete patio and it is very slippery when wet. They did have the option of the sealer that prevents it (basically they add sand in the mixture) I think. Anyhow, I was cheap for not buying that version and now have to live with it....not too bad if you know what to expect when it is wet.
Very rare will one get the garage floor covered with water or other liquids but that is a very valid question to ask.
Seems like we have 2 Sher-Williams testimony so far. and a few other brands.

well guys I have build a new garage/trust me it all about prep work.talk to many people that did it.I had mine done by ardentsurface .five year guaranteed.the u coat it paint was 720.00 for paint 720 sq ft .these guy came in sand the floor custom paint with chips. cost about 1200.00 /but it was worth it.I live close to to mooreville north carolina and these guy have done work for nascar and dealer.when my wife bestfrind said my garage look better then our den I said think you/and my wife is getting her new floors.

I did my garage last year and went with a 1-part "Behr" epoxy, after the recommendation of a Home Depot employee. I degreased and pressure washed the floor with my 2750psi pressure washer. I followed that up with the acid etching and primer. I did add the anti slip additive which IMO only made the floor a PITA to clean. Within a few weeks some areas had peeled and I simply could not get the floor 100% clean ever again.

If I do it again I will rent a floor sander and use a better 2-part epoxy.

Week after coating...

6-8 months later....floor is damp but you get the idea.
