My current project is bringing my engines natural beauty back to life. This car now resides in Southern California but originally came from Illinois and their salty winters...Anyways, im open to any suggestions, so feel free.
Mats:
-Brasso metal polish
-Mothers mag-alum polish
-Steel wool #00
-Simple green (for engine bay)
-Various brushes and rags
Before:
After:
I've tried using steel wool #00 and its helping a bit but these heavily oxidized areas with spots are tough. I think im better off removing the valve covers since i can move around easier instead of working around logs/hoses/wires/etc. Still a long way to go. I've used a combination of Brasso and steel wool first, and then Mothers Mag-Alum. polish with a rag. Going to try Mothers with the steel wool tomorrow and see if i get better results. Something tells me Brasso isnt really strong enough for the job.
Also, I want to remove some rusted/oxidized bolts/hangers/clamps/etc one at a time, and soak them in some rust-remover solution. Any recommendations? I've seen some stuff on tv but forgot the name, but they let it sit for a couple hours and it dissolves the rust. I dont know if its safe for the metal strength though, but my main purpose for this is to prevent any further damage to vital bolts due to rust.
