Employees

I have a lot of questions which I will post time to time and I welcome others to do the same too. Thanks in advance for any advice.

1. Do you allow employees or 1099 people to take pictures of the cars you work on?

Just to clarify. You are asking if we allow employees or equivalent to photograph the work we do?

If so, I would absolutely as long as they both tag the company and the companies information in every photo.

Trusting an employee on paint is much more hazardous

than trusting then with photography. I understand that you

don't want them using your work as theirs, but you can't

watch your employees 100 percent of the time.

I think will is on the right track. Set ground rules prior and

let them know that photos are encouraged. Just don't waste

valuable work time, would be my concern.

Thanks for the advice. At first I did not want employees to take photos but after these comments I asked them to make sure lic plates and addesses are not in their pictures. Making sure my business gets credit for work is very importain.

Apd, there are free mosaic apps on phones.

I am not talking about one that makes one picture of if many.

One that is useful puts small mosaic boxes over a part of the pic.

This can be used to cover registration stickers, license plates and faces.

Have to agree with David. There are some good photography threads here.

Sorry i could have been more clear on my original post. Is it ok for employees to take pictures of the vehicles they work on for there personal use? I tryed to keep a open mind but yesterday on CL I found this guy that works in a well known shop and took some pics while at work. He basicly stated that I do this m-f but you can get the same job done at my house for cheaper onthe weekend. Also I have customers that tell me its ok if I take picture but please no plates. Sorry but I am not ok with employees taking pictures. My new contract will state that clearly.

Them using pictures stating they are the ones detailing the car, thats a grey area...yes they are working on it, but if they are another business entity, I wouldnt allow it.  If they are an employee, let them brag to their friends on facebook about the Ferrari they are waxing.  If they are soliciting business from it, then I would ask that they not do it

I have a guy I work with more often these days and he posts pics and states he is helping me out.  He doesnt claim them as his job or his client which I respect and have no problem with...

non-competes take care of them starting their own business after they are taught to do things your way.

In California, you have to give them business equity in order to enforce it....I.E a % of the business like 1-5%.  Otherwise, in CA, non-competes are not legal to enforce.

Thanks again for all the great advice.  My next question is: when you hire a new employee do you give the a probation period?  If so, how long is the probation period?

Many states have a 90 day or 6 Month "at will employment" period. During this time, the employee could get fired, or could quit with no notice. No good reason is needed.
