I detailed a black Hyundai this morning, the owner gave me an old 3M Waffle pad that he had lying around, I figured I'd try it out and see how it compared to the Edge 8" Wave Blue pad. Right from the start I noticed that the 3M pad felt coarser than the Edge pad.
3M Pad:I put 2 pencil thin beads of Presta Swirl Remover, both about 8" long on the right side of the hood and slowly picked up on each bead, spreading the product around until it covered the half pretty evenly. Speed was set at 1500 RPM's and I polished the hood left-to-right then right-to-left, and a final pass going top-to-bottom. The pad seemed a bit dry towards the end, I assume with it's larger pores it soaks the polish up much faster? No holgrams and a nice high-gloss finish.
Edge Pad: Same regime as above, but I did get a small amount of sling, I think I used a bit more product this time. The Edge pad spread the polish a bit easier and even than the 3M pad. I worked the machine in the same directions, the Edge pad felt like it was grabbing the surface less and left a faint improvement in shine over the 3M side of the hood.
The 3M pad will stay with me but I think it's use will be limited
