Eco Friendly Products

I was wondering if anyone knew any products that are "eco friendly" such as soaps and compounds. My team and I are going to start handling the work in a big time marina in NYC and among some back end stuff im getting in order, theres a lot of regulations here. They want products that arent bad for the environment because the water in the marina gets tested, despite the fact that ferry traffic, and so much other disgusting stuff is floating in NY harbor.

I use orpine wash & wax and have a few new samples of soap I was sent to try that are the same just much better margins for me. Is orpine eco friendly and are there any compounds/polishes maybe water based ones that arent terrible?

You'd be surprised because a lot of products are already eco friendly. Some APCs are like Poorboys, and some waxes like Dodo Juice which are made from natural ingredients. They are out there

You would also be surprised how many 'eco friendly' products contain ingredients which are harmful to the environment. In a lot of instances, 'biodegradability' seems enough for a marketing person to term a product as being eco friendly - it is not. Were that the case, the detergents directive in the EU would, more or less, require that every product sold as a cleaner within the EU, would be eco friendly .

It is a sad truth that you cannot trust the manufacturers information anymore. You need to get hold of the MSDS and ensure that all the ingredients are environmentally 'safe'. For instance, nonyl phenol ethoxylates are a very common ingredient which, in a formulation, would not give any reason for the product to be unfriendly to the environment. In actual fact, these are banned in the EU because of their potential harm. Linear ethoxylates which are the common replacements are considered environmental toxins but this will only be reflected if present in levels which are rarely ever seen in a consumer cleaner. Phosphates are without any hazard and need not be even identified under many regulations but they lead to eutrophication which we should all accept as bad.

A mine field I am afraid.
