I cant believe people would do such a thing. Im makes me skeptical when using ebay. Saw this on a rsx forum. but i wonder if the same can happen with payPaL ? :wall

And We Have The Police On It, But We Probably Have To Count Our Losses. I Hate That People Would Lie And Take Other People's Money From Them That They Worked For. In All It Was A Learning Experience And It Really Hurt My Mom. So We're Saving Up Again And This Time We Will Go To A Dealership And Pay The Real Price.

I read stuff like this all the time about ebay...Craigs List is not allot better in some cases...

Man, sorry to hear about that. Unfortunately there are people like this out there that will do anything to get money the easy way. I can't say how much I hate these type of people as I was almost taken on a scam about a year ago. Well, I guess we gotta learn somehow.

It's just the price you pay for not wanting to pay the price. Sometimes when things are too good to be true they actually are. I've got nothing but sympathy for people who are scammed, but people really need to take responsibility for their actions and do some deeper checking when they are doing business over the internet. This dude admits to not paying very close attention to the auction. They should have been sceptical of a 'buy it now' price of nearly 50% of the value of the car not counting the mods. That car was worth $18,000 and probably another two grand in mods. $9800 buy it now is obviously a red flag.

ebay is not inherently evil. Neither is PayPal. Can people rip you off? Of course they can. They'll rip you off if you go to a stealership too. You don't have to go to the internet to get bent over. Caveat emptor is what I always say. Buyer beware. Do your research and buy with caution. I've never been screwed on ebay (knock on wood). You just have to be careful who you buy from. There is someone is selling a car for half the value. I've may have nothing but sympathy for people who were ripped off, but when they ignore the red flags and eagerly jump right into the scam then my sympathy wans...
 
I agree with Fuzz, if a deal is too good to be true it probably is. The only person you can trust with your money is yourself. When you do business over the internet it is easy to get scammed, however to send a wire transfer where someone can just pick up the cash on their end is just plain dumb. How much harder would it have been to exchange a cashiers check for the car, or to wire the money from account to account, at least that way there would be a paper trail that would lead the authorities to the guilty party. I have sympathy for the the guy that got fleeced but it does seem as if he is a bit naive.
 
:lmfao What a sucker. I don't think anyone is to blame here other than the gene pool this kid came from. Why not just mail an envelope with cash in it? If the money was that hard earned then you would think they would be a little more careful about who they sent it to. Personally I think the story is a bunch of bull. If he had a link to the auction he got burned on then that would add more credibility. You'd think if he was really concerned about other people getting ripped off then he would have provided a seller name or something. That story doesn't seem right. I don't know why he would make that up... but it does seem to be a little strange that he admits to being so stupid. He didn't say anything in that post that I believe. Not to mention that the way he types makes me think he is 15 years old anyway and probably not involved in all the facts of the situation.
 
Sucker..... This is just someone's way of teaching him to not be so gullible. If someone offers to sell you a car at half it's value when there is a crazy market for the vehicle then you know something is wrong. They should have seen this coming and I really hope they learned a lesson. This one cost them $5000, but the next one could cost them more. If people weren't so gullible then scammers wouldn't even try this kind of stuff.
 
I don't get why someone would wire someone they never met almost 5K in the first place. Heck, send them a check for a couple hundred to hold it for a week or something. People are too trustworthy. It is a shame that you can not trust everyone but they should have known better.

WOW Simon you are a tough critic,lol You are right though but pretty brutally blunt give the kid a break it could all be fact. buying a car on ebay is something my mind could never EVER do anyway you look at it thats just to much money to be messin with.
