E55 Class AMG=Performance

This E55 Benz is one of the nicest cars I have driven. Has it all. Luxury, performance, status. I much as I hate detailing black, I had a blast doing this car after seeing the results. This car even lets you know how much air is in each tire. Pretty cool.

And it has the dreaded SBC brake, which has no mechanical connection with the wheels, just an electronic one. Okay it has a mandated hydraulic circuit, but it acts only on the front wheels with max. 0.3 g deceleration capability, no ABS, no stability control. Believe me, it is a funny feeling when the pedal falls in, and it flashes its sweet control display, indicating: "Brake broke. Please stop!" But how??? (Actually it is: Bremse defekt! Anhalten!) The emergency brake then slows it but instead of 35 m from 100 km/h, it can only stop in around 80 meters... I could tell long stories...

But it is nice...

Looks Brilliant except for the tail pipes I find scratch X followed by NXT metal polish works great. Just a friendly tip

Kind regards Sam

Nice car but it never looked like a car to me that would cost that much money.

Look under the hood. 469 hp and a 1/4 mile time of 12.4 @ 116mph! That is Z06 territory with a real trunk and back seat!

Nice work, Gary! Care to share your techniques and product selection? ;)

Since I market my own line of products I must be careful not to walk into the grey area with Autopia police. I can say this, after the prep work, I used paint cleaner/polish with my new DeWalt buffer (that thing rocks) then finished with my paint sealant. for more info you know where to go. .3 G decel rate caught my attention since I know what it feels like. The aircraft Im and instructor on gives a .3g rate of decel on touch down and then goes to .6g when the nose touches down. After you slow below 60 Knots it goes back to .3g until stopped. Strange they use the same numbers......

.3G is fine if your going straight and no one is in front of you but I can see how in a car this would really be a bad thing.

have 03e55 and05 sl65 do not know what bence is talking about never had any problems with brakes or asrmaybe he needs to drive one and find what it is all about

edit - weird, i just saw one picture when i hit the refresh button. looks great. :)

E55, patience, my boy! I have driven more Mercs, than most. One of my test cars, (actually a normal E500) suffered an "interesting" SBC failure three times. And yes, even after software update. Funny feeling, especially on a track at the end of a straight, believe me that. And straight line performance is not the whole picture. Your SL65 goes like hell, but which biturbo V12 doesn't? The E has good body control for the street, but terrible on the track. Wallowy, have NO diagonal damping. And in some turns the steering has awful kickback. Seriously, I met a journo fellow who didn't dare to sit in an SBC-braked Merc.

Ah, and one SL55 AMG had the same problem when creeping to a parking lot at 10 mph! After update, the problem disappeared miraculously. Indeed, the very same car needed a laptop, some additional wizardry and two further hours just to be able to close its top. But the SBC was/is the main issue; that's why MB recalled all of their SBC-equipped cars...

For me, no Stuttgart Stars, thank you.
