This is on my friend's 2003 BMW X5 (color is steel grey). He uses strap on bumper pads to cover the front of the car (to protect the bumper in the valet garage). He most recently put on the bumper pads while the car was still wet. An unknown amount of time has passed. It appears a dye in the cloth material of the bumper pad has appears to have run and embedded itself in the paint.
We used Griot's Fine Hand Polish, with only a slight improvement, but problem is still quite noticeable.
Here's how it looks after using hand polish:
Contrast enhanced to show the stain better:
Is my friend screwed, or will a more aggressive treatment help fix the problem?
