Dusty Garage

Firstly, I have gone through 10 pages of results searching for 'dust' and I found nothing, so please spare me the whip if I missed an old thread on this.

I park in a fairly dusty garage. It is an underground condo garage and they have fan exhaust systems that run periodically so the air and dust are circulated around, causing layers of dust to fall on everyone's cars. Even after 48 hrs parked, I can draw patterns with my finger in the dust on my windshield.

Normally what I do is go to the touchless car wash and get it cleaned off every few weeks, then I apply 2 coats of Turtle Wax Platinum immediately using microfiber towels before the dust builds up.

1. Is this a good plan to protect it from dust, so that no permanent damage is caused? (My car has paint with a clear coat.)

2. If not, what can I do to prevent permanent paint damage?

I'm not overly concerned about the car looking 100% nice and shiny all the time because that's really impossible for me, but it's more about keeping the maintenance up.

My garage is somewhat dusty too but not as bad as your describing. After a wash I use FK1 #425 quick detailer. It has an anti-static claim with it and I've found that it works. Although it doesn't keep dust off completely it reduces it nicely.

I was exactly thinking of this today!! I went out to the garage and my car is already semi, very little dusty from overnight parking in the garage. I'd also love to somehow prevent as much dust as possible also. Although the family likes to open/leave the garage up a lot. I took the vacuum that has a blower on it and blew it all off, yes I'm that crazy, might of even made it worst.

You're doing good going to do a touchless wash instead of just trying to wipe it off. You're also doing well by keeping your car protected with regular applications of car wax. While I've never used Turtle Wax Platinum Wax, I have read that it's a pretty decent product for something available OTC (over-the-counter).

No permanent damage will happen from the dust unless someone tries to just wipe it off or writes on it with their finger, and then that will only cause marring that could be easily polished out.

As ichixban mentioned, I'd use some FK425 (a spray quick detailer) after a wash to help minimize some of the dust collection. If you're waxing after each wash apply some FK425 when finished because fresh wax can be a real dust magnet. FK425 is anti-static and will help in that area. Below is a link on where to get some FK425:

If you order some 425 that might be the time to order some other wax or sealant from them to try. You could get the sampler pack (900-1-Car Kare Kit), or just add some 1000P and/or some 2685 (Pink Wax) to your order of 425.

haha i joined these forums to find an answer to why my car was so static -y and here i find hte answer i was looking for

SO no wonder my car would get extremely staticky after a wax...

so besides ordering the 425 any other producst i should buy fromt aht website >

i have fk1 #425 and i find its a great gloss but if you park car in garage and dust is swarming around in circles and falling, nothing will help. I have black car and you always see that layer of dust even with QD just applied.
