Duragloss #104 question

Recently from Carquest I picked up #104. I noticed mine is labeled differently. On many sites I see #104 Wet Look Paste Wax. Mine says Wet Look Paste Polish. Is there a difference? I like the product except that it has the consistency of warm pudding. Seems like it should have been in a squeeze bottle. I was hoping it was a solid.

thats is how the product is...like mayonnaise....they both are the same product..maybe just a rename.....or you may have got old stock....

I have posted before ..carquest sometimes has old stock..I got some 111 last spring that was 3 years old....was curdled.....they do not turn it over fast...it sits in the warehouse..or on the shelf collecting dust...

Most who go in a car store look for brand names..Megs..Turtle wax...simoniz..and pass on the names they do not know...

DG has been out for a long time..but really not known....well it is now....DG does OEM stuff for car manufacturers also..like Ford..

I buy my sealants from them directly..I know I have fresh product...

but the 104 looks like that...

AL

i used some Dg 104 today and am so pissed I could eat nails. I love the 101 and 111- Last weekend - last weekend- I washed/dryed and clayed my dark candy apple tricoat mustang - just topped it off with megs NXT liquid- looked amazing- only 2k on the odo- remember, I haven't driven it until today. SOOOOO today-I put a top coat of DG 104 and it looked like my dog took a leak on it- never seen anything so $#^%^ up looking- shadowed, darker here, lighter there- whussup- I didn't have time to deal with it toady- tommorrow I'm gonna strip the hood and reclay- then NXT it a couple of times- maybe megs #7 - love the DG line but I am just shattered on the 104- it ain't worth the grief guys- screw it-heck- the $4 turtle wax never looked that bad-I'm taking it back to CAR Quest tommorrow.

Did you do any kind of prep work whatsoever before applying the DG 104? Wash, QD, waterless wash? Or did you just apply the DG over a week's worth of dust that had settled on the car? Just curious as to what your process was, as the process could have had something to do with it. Not saying it did, but the old saying goes something like the poor carpenter always blames his tools.

Like AL-53 I buy direct from DG or AG and have been using DG for several years without a problem.
You may have got old stock at CC also on a car the size of a Mustang if you used more than a ounce you applied too heavy.

I probably wouldn't have put the DG 104 over the NXT. Some sealants don't bond well to other sealants and though I don't know about compatibility issues between these two products it isn't worth the risk of doing it twice. In my opinion using these products on their own the 104 comes out on top.

I got it at cquest- could be old stock but there are reports on the 104 not being good to use but plenty of folks besides me. I have NEVER put good name brand paste different waxes together that didn't work just fine- thats BS- 104 just sucks and I'm takin it back tommorow.

Yep Duragloss says to use their 601 before applying their product over any durable polish.
While it is possible that he got old stock it sounds like a case of not following directions.
When thousands of people have excellent results with a product and then 1 person claims it is garbage you got to believe it is a case of improper application.
I got my cars ready for northern Indiana's harsh winter weather by applying Duruagloss to all of my vehicles.
Here is example of how awful it looks on some of my cars.

Why don't you show me where it says it has to be applied over 601 exclusively- it doesn't say it on the can, in their directions- NOWHERE- so where does it say that? Its wax - shouldn't matter

oh yea- and by the way-the directions on the can say zero about 601- i'm looking right now. this says PASTE WAX.

THERE MANY PEOPLE BESIDES MYSELF WHO HAVE BAD RESULTS. IF GO TO GOOGLE- AND PUT IN DURAGLOSS 104 PROBLEMS- THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE- NOT JUST ME. I saw the pictures of the vehicles you did and they do look good. I also use the 101 and 111 and they are killer- so it isn't about following directions that don't exsist

Its wax - shouldn't matter

Sometimes, it matters a great deal. Some things you have to apply and remove very specifically - I don't have any experience with the 104, so I don't know if that's the case or not. Just thinking you can apply a wax over anything that's on the car is an error in judgement. Oils, dust, etc can wreak havoc on the application, longevity, looks, etc of whatever you're applying.

The streaking you mentioned early in this post leads me to believe you applied this heavy. Streaking and "different colors" are a couple of things you get when you apply some products too heavy. It's possible that I am entirely wrong, however and you just got a bad can of product. I'd urge you to retrace your steps and figure out what other possibilities could have lended to you getting bad results.

If you decide to take every product you buy back that doesn't work 100% with the attitude of "it doesn't matter how I use it," I am afraid you'll be making lots of return trips.

thats cool- I understand your point a little better than the last one. Having said that, I would resent the implication " its a matter of not following directions"- like its actually common knowledge for every human being on earth that uses DG- i.e. the sun rises in the east-sets in the west- type idea--lol- but it could be a matter of experience which I am short on as for actually being a pro- because I am not- period- but I have a pretty good idea of things- to a limited degree.
don't carte what anyone says- paste wax/syth or carn is wax- I've layered stuff forever-never had it get stupid like yesterday- never-I've used Mothers with Megs, on top of Ice ontop of 3m under liquid glass- no biggie-

DG oroducts are new for me- but so far I love what it has done except for 104. I went over to check out the Mustang today and it looked fine-I did use water/QD on it yesterday to try to salvage it- it could be it looks splotchy after the application but it looked ok today -to a degree under the garage lights- I'll no better latter under direct sunlight - I put some more QD on it today- for about 10 minutesish- No discoloration or weirdness today-soooooooo- I ain't using it no more-

can't beat old #7 or nattys anyways

You are probably the only member on this forum that didn't know about using 601 over other wax.

You could have done like I did when I first started using DG products I called DG and talked with the chemist that actually formulated the stuff and made sure I understood how to properly use their products.

Your statement that wax is wax is dead WRONG.

People like JP have years of experience and they are trying to help you if you would allow it.

You could have searched this site for Duragloss threads their are plenty of them.

With your attitude toward detailing products like JP said you will find yourself taking a lot of products back.

For me this is my last post in this thread
I wish you luck on playing home chemist and your mixing of products.

lol I mix stuff all the time - this topper under that glaze - have to save I have never tried DG paste wax but every other product they make it spot on. Thier aqua wax is amazing, FCS too. I have used thier polish lok with other sealants for great results. Only paste I got was natty's about 2 years ago...and I still have some left lol..

you dang skippy- I've mixed stuff forever and never had a problem- ever ever ever- but I'm not a pro and don't have to deal with the rigors of other peoples neglect like the pros on this forum. but it shouldn't b a problem mixing polishes and waxes etc... not really- this aint rocket science but I do have respect for the individuals that dedicate a big portion of their lives helping people maintain their train wrecked ( cars) paint and interior- etc... lol just kidding. - detailers work is greatly appreciated by me and lots of needy people-
