Durability questions?

DaGonz

Autopia fire/rescue.
Why does everyone have durability questions?

Damn it, we are AUTOPIANS, we love to detail our cars! :D

For our own cars it's not a huge issue, but many members detail for lots of clients that don't make regular appointments. Customer satisfaction is a huge issue, and much of that has to do with how their car looks after being detailed.

Gonzo0903,

The only time I am truly worried about durabilty is in the winter time as my vehicle sits outside 24/7 and is a dailt driver and I cant detail for 3 to 4 months. Thats when the durabilty of a product kicks in for me.

I have protection issues, but not durability. :D

As long as the product will go for 30 days, that is all that I require. Rarely can I wait the 30 days to test that.:p

Yeah, but not everyone on here has the true Autopian mentality...

Heh heh, well, some of us also like to do a lot of other things, and life is short...and, to be honest, I don't really get a kick out of detailing the minivan. Having my LSP last a long time means I don't *have* to do any more than wash if I don't want to or don't have the time to spare. There I go again, playing "Autopian Heretic" :D

Durability is VERY important to me.

It is the property that allows me to detail my car because I want to . . . not because I HAVE to!!!

That small difference in mentality changes a 'chore' into a 'joy'.

Same here. Though for me, it may be 6-8 months before I can detail my car.

Time is also an issue for me. I can't just devote every weekend to detailing. I got too much other stuff to do. Having a no fuss no muss long lasting and great looking product is very important to me.

Bill.

LOL, you're not alone though...

My truck hasn't seen wax in awhile and doesn't get it often. I detail other people's vehicles and when I have time off I don't really feel like detailing my own... lol

Time is money ?...No. Time is worth more than money....Once time is spent it's gone forever. Money can be replaced.

Similar to the other winter related responses. That's why I love Zaino for the winter. Great durability.

Hehe, well yes, I love to detail...but adding a coat of wax is a small part of my detailing regimen.

Autopian mentality? Sorry, but my view of a true Autopian is different than yours Intel. :)

Hey... it was just a rhetorical question :D !

Being a firefighter, I sometimes forget that others have to work in the Monday through Friday 9 to 5 mode.

I work what we in the fire business call 10's and 14's:

Two 10 hour day tours (8:00AM to 6:00 PM),

Two 14 hour night tours (6:00 PM to 8:00 AM),

followed with four days off.

It averages to a 42 hour work week over an eight week cycle. For example, this week I am working July 3rd and 4th days, the 5th and 6th nights, get off duty at 08:00 on the 7th, and have the rest of the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th off. The cycle continues in this manner throughout the year.

Yeah, one of my closest friends is a fire-fighter (now a fire inspector) and I really envy his schedule. Five days of 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM followed by two days off just ain't enough!!

Don't worry, IMO we're all taking this the right way  :D

Intel486- Same "don't worry" applies to your "true Autopian mentality" quip ;) Hey, I'm the guy who does the undercarriage of the family minivan with every wash :p But trying to maintain five or six vehicles (at that level) for my entire adult life has become a little of a time-consuming chore, at least at times. Just *so* many things to do...and when I'm gone, I hope people say a little more than "well, he kept his cars clean" :D

Yes!! That's it *EXACTLY*! :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs Renewable vs. nonrenewable resoureces....and IMO the ultimate resource is TIME (queue up the Pink Floyd background music).

Three cars, two kids, old house, acre of lawn, golf, work, long MI winter, yadda yadda yadda.

Durability is at the top of my list as is Zaino.

Time by Pink Floyd: Autopian version

Ticking away the moments that make up a wash day

we buff and polish our cars the Autopian way

Kicking around the garden hose in the driveway

Waiting for the rain to stop so we can start our day

Every day is getting shorter

never seem to find the time

our plan to wash and QD cars

are half a page of forum lines

hanging on in quiet desperation is the Autopian way

the sun is out, the rain is over, thought I'd something more to say....

I saw Pink Floyd at the Wang Center (then the Music Hall) in Boston in 1973 for the "Dark Side of the Moon" tour. We were sitting in the first row of the balcony, just 50 feet from the stage at dead center.. it was the best concert I ever attended!
