Durability of Wet Diamond?

Today I parked next to a really nice 3 Series BMW, it was a 2000 registered car and it look fantastic. By chance the owner turned up and I asked him what products he used. The answer - Turtle Wax!!!!

He washes with some TW wash and then applies TW wax with a MF. Seriously, this car looked great. I know TW is not popular on this forum, but I can only guess he has a very good technique for cleaning his car.

Now, where did I put that old Wash n Wax bottle...

He was probably lying just so you would not know his secret. He may have used Turtle Wax Emerald Series which looks like it could possibly be a decent product.

Turtle Wax Emerald Series, thats the stuff, I could not remember what it was called, but once it was mentioned... (my memory is not what it used to be). Does anybody know about this stuff?

Yes, he could have lied to me, but in the UK, 'Detailing' does not really exist.

I have a slightly used bottle of the TW EMERALD SERIES liquid Carnuba wax.

I was not too impressed with when I tried it on a dark grey vehicle. It went on nice and all but did not bead for more than 2 weeks and it was not a great shine. My 3.99 kit Carnuba was better.

BTW the Vehicle was friends, and she supplied the beer. Got to use up the old stuff on something and she paid me with, well........

ok, so the product is not very good. In that case how did he get such a deep shine, what is he doing with a cheap product to make the car look so good? Skill? or can TW produce a reasonable product?

Hi Lowejackson,

I noticed in your post that you have an Alfa 164!!! What a great car. I love mine. Are you a member of the alfa digest?

The Emerald Series may be the same formulation as Meguiars Gold Class wax. Both give a great initial shine, but the protection only lasts a week. They probably have very reflective oils in them, but do not stand up well to the sun, heat, soap, or water, and break down quickly.

Hello Dom and welcome to one of the best forums around, these people are so nice and helpful. Yes I am a member of the alfa digest - great place.

If you have any pictures of your car publish them, I do not a scanner or digital camera it would be nice to see a detailed alfa here.

Hi Lowejackson,

OK, I posted some recent pics in the photo gallery. My wife just got me some Zaino for my B-day, so I plan to try it out this weekend. I will take more pictures afterwards, but I will have to wait to develop the film and scan it in, as I don't have a digital camera yet.

Maybe it shines nicely because of the fact it is pretty new or good prep. The gooey green stuff isn't bad. It does the job (clean the paint a bit, and improve the shine A BIT) pretty quickly.

Welcome DOM!

Nice to have another Alfa Owner here! We gotta try to keep up with these BMW's ya know!

I've had a degree of success with Turtle Wax products in the past. They have stuff that is "good", but just think what that car would've looked like with Klasse or Zaino!! Because of this site I now the the truth!! As soon as I get out of Korea and back to S. Georgia I think I'll Zaino the GTV6!! It's the only Alfa I have with good paint!!

I'm currently using Collonite #915 mainly because of it's bulletproof durability. It's lasted over 6 months on a car that's parked outside 24/7. How does wet diamond compare durability wise? I know it looks great.

For me its been about 4 months with BFWD.

Everyones results may be different with durability. There are many factors involved.

I've never let the beading go completely "flat". So when the beads start to spread out, I reapply. For my outdoor vehicles, it's been 4-5 months. (Outside 24/7).

Depending on the climate, five months is a good average. Collinite is a great product and holds up well. Wet Diamond is so easy to apply, the re-application is not a problem.
