Dull Spot in Paint - How to Fix?

06 Porsche 911 - Today after washing I noticed a dull spot in the paint I have never seen before, its just above the driver side door handle (Inside red arrows, bright spot is the sun). Sun was hitting just right and I seen it. Last time I used my PC7424 on it was about 2 mo ago with Adams, I use the correct pad with the correct product. Not a beginner, I would say advanced intermediate using it and have used it for 8 yrs now on different vehicles, never an issue.

What has happened and how do I fix it? Thank you.

Looks like a strike through on the clear. Have you owned the car since it was new or did you purchased it used?

What have you done polishing wise what you know of?

I have had it 2 years. Had a good deal of swirl marks when I got it but was in excellent cond with 42k mi. When 1st bought I used Blackfire SRC with an Orange pad, followed by BF Finishing Polish with white pad and Sealer with red pad. 2nd time I used Adams Swirl and Haze with orange pad, followed by Adams Machine Polish with white pad and Sealant with red pad.

Nothing obtrusive or harsh. What do you think? Any way to fix?

I still think its a strike through of the clear coat which would mean you would need a repaint.
Usually when a person stokes through the clear the paint underneath (Basecoat) will have a dull or faded look to it.

Yes, just tested the area with a small amount of polish on a foam pad, and some black got on the foam pad. Clear coat gone I assume?

Yes if you are getting color transfer then the clear is gone and what you are seeing is the exposed base coat.

Yes, this is likely the case.

Cars that have single-stage paints and tinted clear coats will bleed color. Some cars, that have colored-overspray or colored contamination can bleed a little bit too, but this is pretty unlikely.

Do any other areas of the car bleed color?

No nothing any where else. As a matter of fact the area of concern is not visible unless the light hits it just right. This morning I could not even see it in the sun. Will is gradually worsen? Can I preserve it by just keeping wax/sealer on it?

You struck through it, happened to me on a 996 911 black as well. Your going to have to get it sprayed, the bad... You gotta get it painted. The good, it's not metallic, very easy to match... They can blend the panel.

In the mean time, bring the car to a Detailer an have them give you a read on what the depth of your cc is. This way you know if you can polish other areas safely.

No, you cannot put sealant or a coating on it. Cc failure is like a cancer an will only spread unless removed aka sanded an repainted/cleared.

So, is it a strike-through or clear coat failure?

Strike-throughs don't spread IMO

I've never seen a car with any type of clear coat that has been breached an hasn't spread. It's impossible, the elements will get to it at some point. It's like saying if a ballon has a hole or leaking because it isn't tied. No matter what the breach exists an must be fixed. Wether it's cc failure of natural causes (elements) or strike through the clear layer is compromised an will eventually flake.

The bottom line is if he wants to maintain an protect the surface it must be fixed, there is no getting around it.

What about a Hot Air Ballon?
