Dull looking paint

Hi: I have a 2007 350Z. The paint started to look dull and when i touched the paint it would leave fingerprints. due to a perviuos wax job I would imagine I used some Meguiars cleanerwax. Applied by hand. Paint looks a little better but still has a dull looking finish. The paint still smudges with finger prints. Any ideas to the problem and a fix?
 
You probably need to polish. The final finish is based on prep work. If you don't polish the clear coat, you will never get a popping finish no matter what wax you use.
 
FWIW, the first time I clayed my car I was stunned. I had never seen truly squeaky clean paint. It was easy, too; which contradicts my Puritan work ethic (good results oughta require hard work), but that's a different story.
 
since its an 07, i cant imagine it would need anything agressive.. mabye clay, precleaner, ans very mild polish... try the first 2 steps of the mothers 3 phase.. or meguiars.. i like mothers step one better, but meguiars 2nd step better (in the deep crystal system. mothers california gold precleaner is great very underrated stuff. its one of the best OTC products ive tried. top with something like collinite or the klasse twins for winter.



you'll most likley get the results you want from JUST the meguiars deep crystal polish.. it has no cut, just lots of oils that get id of hazey dullness without removing any paint at all. make sure u top with a lsp, as the "polish" has no protective qualities

Well, if it makes you feel better, next time you clay, every time you knead the clay drop and give me ten push-ups. :D



just be sure to rinse off your hands each time before getting back to work. ;)

Coming from a Z owner myself, its hard to imagine that a 07 is having dull paint issues.



Fingerprints on clear is usually going to happen since your hand have oils and soil on them. Any pictures?
 
Yeah as a Z owner myself, I do wonder what color the car is also.



If you are looking for extra pop, make sure you pay special attention to the front of the hood, C pillar, and especially the flat area above the beltline to the windows on the side. Those areas on this car really can add some pop to the look of it.
