dull chrome wheels

I have chrome wheels on my corvette. Three of them are 100 percent shiny. One is very dull and is not responding to my elbow grease. I have tried several products, but they don't bring back the shine the others have. I think I got some type of chemical on them and can't get it off. I need advice as to how to get that chemical stain (dullness) off the wheel. Thanks in advance for your expertise!

What products and application methods have you tried so far?
 
have you tried Wendol in the RED tube? It's a cutting polish for metals. If it get's the level of shine up, switch to a normal chrome polish as this stuff will with a lot of rubbing,will cut the plating off. Be careful with this product.You can find it at Williams and Sonoma or other stores like that.



Have you removed them off the vehicle? It's easier while benching them when you have a problem. Tires can stay on.



If nothing returns it, you may want to get a set of new wheels or remove them for repairing/replating as there are quite a few places that specialize in wheel repairs/replate. Costs less than new wheels! Just use some stock or crappy wheels while they get repaired if the Wendol does not work.

Please, any newcomers reading this, do NOT attack your delicate chrome finish with anything as abrasive as SOS pads! :scared
 
If it's a C5 and the wheels are OE, make sure they are the chrome plated ones, and not the (clear coated) polished aluminum ones.



Use the proper type of polish for the finish.



In my opinion, if a chrome plated wheels gets dulled by using an inappropriate chemical on it, you won't be able to fix it - you'll need to replace the wheel or have it replated.
 
I have used simple green, eagle one chrome wheel cleaner, a couple of other chrome cleaners, and lastly, I hand-rubbed the wheel with blue magic wheel cleaner. Assuming that the wheel began as a 3 on the 1 to 10 scale, the first items brought it to a 4. The hand-rubbed blue magic brought the wheel up to a 7 or 8, where it is now. When you look at the other three wheels, then look at this one, there is no comparison. I took the wheel off the car and put it on the workbench. I buffed it with a buffing wheel and drill. That did help, but now I need further direction to get that wheel from a 7 back up to a 10.
