Dull Brake Calipers

My calipers are painted red from the factory. After about 24k miles now, they are starting to look pretty dull and faded.

What can I do to bring them "back to life"? I clean them every wash using soap and water, and sometimes spray with A2Z (orange bottle).

Any ideas??

Or better yet, get some red caliper paint and spray it into a cup and use a brush. I sprayed mine and learned the hard way that you practicly have to have a car cover on while you do that to avoid getting overspray on your car. Using a brush would have actually been faster and cleaner.

Yeah, you're going to have to go ahead and take off your wheels and make it a hands on deal. Clean the calipers let them dry, prep the surface and hand paint them with several coats. This will acheive the best and safest results.:up

There's more than one way to skin a cat for this job. It would be easier and cleaner to paint them while they are off the car of course, but I've seen people with nicer cars than mine mask off everything and do it by hand on the car and it turned out perfect. Brad B. did it that way in fact.

Brake parts cleaner...they are probably just baked with brake dust.

Give that a whril first...I doubt the paint is ruined after 24K

Jngr there are actually 372 ways to skin a cat...its taken me awhile but I've finally figured it out. Hopefully the neighbors do not... HERE kitty kitty

If you want calipers that look awesome then remove them, wash them and dry them well, as noted by others, and then sand them lightly with 3000 grit, primer them and then paint them using paint designed for high temps.

Instead of using a paint brush or a can use an airbrush. An airbrush gives fantastic results. The cost is not all that expensive and because there is very low overspray you can spot repair without tons of masking.

Before you repaint them, be sure the existing paint job is dead. Can they be polished up? Have you tried a compound? I polished the red calipers of a Porsche recently and they "came back to life".

They were dull as dirt!

What did you use to polish them?

I used 3M Finesse It with a foam pad. Did it by hand. Took about 30-40 minutes per wheel to do the most visible areas.

Could have used something more abrasive to save time but FI did the trick. Basically you just treat it like your body paint.

Clay helped to remove some baked on brake dust spots.
