Duetto vs ...boat

This was a fun project. 20 foot boat,,he says..maybe I should have measured for myself since I was charging by the linear foot :)

Rinseless wash
Clay (although I didn't notice any difference from before after claying)
Duetto armed with rupes yellow polishing pad
and PoorBoys Polish W Sealant (since this was an outside job)
speed 6- let that baby sing the great duetto song

results...well lets just say that I am completely satisfied with the turnaround and the owner does not even understand how much better it looks, but I figure you guys could appreciate these pics.....

Best of all it only took 5 hours to do the whole wash and polish job on the exterior of this 20 foot boat. Rupes Duetto saved the day. I could have only asked for a larger bp and 7 inch pads.lol

took this picture to illustrate what a customer saying "yea i just washed it yesterday" really means in real life- lol - far back side cleaned with rinseless wash

back of boat after wash and clay

50 50 after PB PWS

all done

top part polished

and the classic 50-50 for your viewing pleasure

oxidation up close cant even see the flash

fixed that problem real quickly

ta-da

remember this?

how about now?

Awesome turn around. I have polished many cars but never a boat. I am going to attempt and my first boat soon, in the next month or two. It is a black Centurion and gel-coated. Any tips for a first timer?

This was my time polishing a boat. the only advice I can give you is
1)make sure you have something comfortable to sit on (with a cushion)

2)expect this to take a long time, longer than you think (i was lucky that I have a duetto, the 15 or 21 would have worked quite nice as well- I would imagine that this would have taken about two or three hours more with another polisher because this thing is a beast, seriously)

3)I tried Zainio ZAIO and PB PWS as those were the only 'sun friendly' AIO's I had and PB PWS worked great. Ideally I would have prefered something with a little better cut but customer was not interested in a two step polish (and honestly after an hour holding this duetto above my shoulder while sitting neither was I anymore)

DO NOT sell yourself short on price, Boats are a lot of work. This guy has been telling me he was going to bring me his boat for three months and luckily once he did I finally had the proper equipment.

4)You're definitely going to want to tape off alot of the rubber seals.

5)Take lots of pictures, we love pictures.

lol- well said Todd

I think I love the Duetto more every time I use it. It is a very nice piece of engineering.

If you are fan of the Porter Cable, then its hard not to be a fan of the Duetto. I was amazed at the performance difference of it vs. the other "traditional" style DA polishers. :bigups

Beautiful turn around

thanks

Great job on it. That's pretty impressive to get those results on gelcoat without a rotary and compound.

thanks. i will have to admit that once i started i began to think that maybe an aio was not going to cut it (pun intended, haha) but once i cranked it up to 6 and put some pressure down it turned out much better than i expected. I could have probably achieved better results if I had used the rupes green pad or maybe a ht cyan but i like the feel the rupes pads have on the duetto over any others i have used.
I wish rupes would make something in between the green and yellow pad.

but once again Poorboys Polish With Sealant impressed me with it's cutting ability for a once step that is sun friendly. wipes off so easily

Very nice!

This just reminds me that I have to polish my boat before the season starts :wall

A rotary and some Polish w/ Carnauba should do the trick ... and Natural Look on the interior and Pro Polish on the glass and ... wait a sec this is going to take longer than I thought :passout:
