DP/McKee`s 37 Wheel Coating + Eco Touch Wheel Cleaner question

I recently picked up and began using Eco Touch Wheel Cleaner while doing weekly rinseless washes on my DD.

This product was formerly carried by Autopia and AG, and perhaps was dropped due to lack of sales? It has been working well for me as I do not have access to running water in my shop/storage building.

My wheels were coated in late fall with DP wheel coating. Do you think this product is safe enough not to degrade the coating? Or should I look for another product that is a bit more "gentle." I realize I can just use the rinseless wash product itself for cleaning wheels, but I have been pleased with the cleaning ability of Eco Touch... what do you think?
 
I would just use your rinseless wash. I have never used echo touch so I don`t know how harsh or gentle it is but I see no need to use it. One less product to worry about.

My wheels aren`t coated and 95% of the time I just use whatever rinseless I`m using at the time.

I agree. IF you are washing weekly rinseless/waterless solution would be a good way to go.

I will do a heavy saturation weekly with D114, ONR or opti-clean to clean the wheels up. I will decon them 1-2 times a year with some sort of wheel cleaner.
 
In my experience, Eco Touch cleans better than a rinseless product alone. It also allows me to do a better cleaning of the wheel barrels during our rough Wisconsin winters of snow, ice, slush, road salt etc.

Any comments on the original question?
 
As a follow up, I made an inquiry directly to Eco Touch regarding my question. Here is the email reply I received:

"Hi Al,

Thanks for your inquiry, that is a great question. Our wheel cleaner is fairly strong and based off citric acid. It is a low pH of around 4.0 and formulated to remove brake dust and other contaminants. I am not familiar with McKee`s Wheel Coating, so would suggest asking the manufacturer if a low pH product would adversely affect it.

To my knowledge most coatings are designed to not only withstand environmental factors (acid rain, oil, etc) but also regular maintenance cleanings. However I do believe a wheel cleaner with a traditional hydrofluoric or sulfuric acid would remove a coating since they are even more aggressive.

My suggestion would be to try our wheel cleaner in one area and then test to see if the coating is still there. You could either spray on some water to examine beading or just wait a few days and check it out.

I`ve used Eco-Touch Wheel Cleaner on wheels coated with DP - you`ll be fine. It`s a fairly gentle cleaner. Plus once the bottle is empty you can re-purpose the awesome sprayer it comes with!
