Don't Quote on DC!!!

I've narrowed the problem down to quoting people. You may not have been hit with this problem yet, but something is broken around here when you send a PM or post something with the QUOTE tags in the post. It always locks up my browser and forces me to kill the screen. I have had some degree of success by typing my reply first and then going back to the post to put in the quoted text, but sometimes that locks it up too. All I can suggest is that if you are having difficulty with your browser locking up when you post something with quoted text in it then I would try writing your reply and not using the quote tags right away. Make your post and then go back in and edit it by pasting the quoted text. Sometimes that works and sometimes it still locks up the system, but at least you don't have to retype your post if you do it that way. :hang:

IE6. I'm at work and stuck with their options. Generally I don't have a problem, so this may be something that is only attacking IE or something.

Maybe this is your employers way of limiting you internet access at work. :)

It got so out of hand where I used to work that probably less than 5 out of 50 of us were even allowed to have access.

Actually, it probably is just the IE or a firewall at your work site.

Luckily for me my work doesn't really care if I'm online. Besides, it does it to me at home too. Even if it is an IE issue, it is odd that DC would affect it in that way. I post on other forums and I don't have any issues quoting on those. This is a specific issue that only happens when I post or reply to PMs on DC.

Just a thought.
What have you downloaded or changed recently?
It seems that when I have some strange problem with anything, it is often related to something I have recently changed.

Good thought, but I haven't changed anything. I post from several computers here in the office and it has happend on every one of them. I've also posted with quotes and had it not happen, so it's not on every post. For example, I tried quoting something earlier today and it locked up. So I reposted it and went back in to edit it and pasted the quoted text. It worked fine. Then the next post I made I tried to do the same thing and it locked up on me again even when I was just editing it.

I don't think this is a browser issue beyond something just being incompatible with IE6. This has been reported several times by people complaining that sending PMs locks up their computer.

This last paragraph kept me from my next idea.
Operator trouble, but if it is fairly common, that lets you off the hook.

I've had it happen to me as well when using Opera and Firefox. It has been totally random and has been happening on and off for the last few months. I've seen it reported before too. Dwayne is aware of the issue and has it on his list of things to get fixed. We normally would just give Willard a call and he would fix it, but obviously we are in the market for a new VB guru.

I'm using IE and have had it lockup this afternoon twice and this is the first time that its happened to me

This happened to me recently too when I was quoting...several times in a row in fact. It locks up just as I press the "submit" button. It didn't happen in the past, oddly enough...just yesterday. I'm running IE6 too.

I did some research and it appears that an upgrade of the VB forum software should fix this. I will be doing upgrades in January after all the holiday festivities.

Sorry for the inconvenience. :yourrock

"Just checking", said me. I have IE on all my systems and haven't had any issues.

Edited: Just read Dwayne's post. Never mind my posts :surrender
Same here no problems. :dcrules
