does the average person even care...

probably been covered, but for me this isn't a full on business, so it's a little different:

so I'm doing this detailing fundraiser (only 2 cars so far, doh) and was wondering how much I should do. I doubt that most people will notice any difference if I just spray the wheel well down or jack each end up and scrub it down silly. Heck, I found out many ppl think nothing of swirl marks. There's this black carrera at work that has swirl marks everywhere and...nevermind. :D

So, I'm thinking I just need to pay attention to a vacuumed and clean interior, shiny rims & tires, and clean windows. I'm not so sure I should even bother with a clay or polish anymore, well maybe for darker colors. Any thoughts?

If you are promising a full detail, then do the polish and clay. Do not do anything half-assed. I don't think it is necessary to jack the car up to do wheels or anything that extreme though. Just clean it really good and give it a coat of wax.

yeah, I don't plan on cutting any corners or anything like that. I just don't think my semi-insane need for perfection would be noticed (i.e. typical owner probably won't notice the difference between #7 and VM on a black car).

I have my "cutting corner" prices and my full on detail prices. If swirls don't concern them and they just want it to be clean in order to sell it or something, then I have prices for that. Most people want to have all their swirls removed once I show them how good it can look. I've been known to clay and polish just their hood and leave it at that. I let them know that their whole car can look as good as their hood for the right price. I get about a 70% return on that. I used to just do their drivers door because I know that is the body panel they come in contact with the most. Then I decided to do the hood so that other people can comment on it. It has been pretty good for me.

My rule of business is to deliver exactly what you promise. If you say you will get out all their swirls then you should do your best to do just that. If they just want it cleaned up then do it. Everything else is gravy.

Get the swirls out incase someone that does care see's it and wants work done! Forget the wheel wells..Just spray them....
