Does RMG reduce Bonding/Durability of Wax?

I am curious because I prepped my hood with Clay, FPII, RMG and IW 845.(Incredible results BTW) I did not allow any time between steps, just went right through in about 15 minutes. I applied IW 845 with a black finishing pad very low speed.

I am wondering if the RMG prevented the IW 845 from adhering to the paint? The reason is that IW did not bead like crazy after it's first wash. It was beading like the 6 week old OCW on the rest of the car. During the week before it was washed for the fisrt time, it sat in Rain, high heat and pollen not driven. It was a mess when I came home. Could one week of the elements eat through the IW 845?

Any thoughts? Does RMG require a drying time?

Thanks,

Steve

I put natty's blue on over RMG a couple weeks ago and didn't have any problems with it bonding. The problem I did have though was that it rained pretty soon after, and some of the nattys streaked so I had to reapply, maybe it was somethign to do with that?

My experience with RMG was similar to yours in that I saw severely reduced durability when using a sealant (Poorboys EX) over the RMG. All beading was gone after the first rain, and the spider webs that were hidden by the RMG returned. It looked great for about a week. It seems to work well for many others and I'm not sure why it didn't work for me. I've since given up on glazes altogether.

I just got RMG for the first time and wanted to see how it was going to look on my car.

I put AIO on the whole car by PC then RMG on the hood only and then applied IW845 by hand to the the entire truck. This was on Memorial day. I washed the truck yesterday and the hood did not bead anywhere near the same as the roof. Also a lot of the micromarring that was covered up by the RMG has returned. I am going to give it another shot in a couple of weeks and probably try p21 instead of the 845 on the hood to see if it is just the RGM/845 combo that has the problem. BTW I have had 845 bead consistantly in the past for up to 6 weeks in some harse weather.

I was thinking it was the IW 845 as well. I think that it has high solvent content and maybe mixes with the oils from the RMG it's ability to cure or resist the elments in diminished. I have Soverean, which I will put on my Dad's new Callawy Vette after FPII and RMG. It's a garage queen with a cover, so I am not too worried about durability in the elements.

i won't use 845 over anything but a durable sealant. It's got a lot of solvents in it, over glaze i'd use 476s/fleetwax.

Good info here, thanks! I recently applied EX over RMG (my first experience with the latter) and haven't had any issues thus far. EX was followed with two coats of NB over a few-day period. The truck has only been washed once since, so I'm not sure if this is enough of a time period to be helpful in addressing the original question.

I believe the solvents in 845 are strong...it is as flammable as rocket fuel..lol..I think if you put 845 over RMG it will take it off with the solvents...the solvents are strong enough to keep the wax in liquid state...till they flash and leave the carnuba on the painted surface...but while you are applyingit you are rubbing the solvents in also...

I think unless you have a very durable sealant on anything that IW goes on... it will comprimise it somewhat...The collinite paste waxes would be a better choice for over RMG...still a solvent base..but much weaker than 845...

I use 845 for my CC wheels and it works great..845 alone on paint is as good as it gets for a durable wax..will last and last..it is a high carnuba content wax.

My point being..if we use IPA to remove wax..sealants and glazes...do you think the 845 solvents would do the same...

I may be way off base here..but explain why I am...

I use 915...885 and 845...

I have had great results using RMG/EX w/carnauba or EX-P and same with Vanilla Moose and 845. Haven't used 845 over RMG though.

Was your car parked under trees during rain? Did the trees drop a lot of sap? Both can be very hard on your LSP, no matter how good it is. I'd also go by the beading the next time it rains and your car was clean when it started. That way you have no foreign elements on the car that can interfere with how the beading appears.

what about bonding between FK's 303 foam pad glaze and lets say pink wax. Would I be looking at the same type of issues described here? Or should 1000P be layered in between the two?

So SHICKS, do you have a final verdict on 845 over RMG?

I currently have AJx3 / NB / FK425, but want an even deeper look. I thought about trying Pink Moose / 845 to get a deep and durable look, but I am having second thoughts after reading your post.

My original plan was: Pink Moose / 845 / CMW / FK425

But after your post, I might have to take 845 out of the mix and add another layer of CMW. Maybe add in OCW once a month or so. I don't know how long CMW will hold up in the Texas heat.

I tried 845 and I love the beading ability.

Well, right now I am running Zaino on that car since the durability of the 845 was weak, I have another observation with 845. I seem to get more debris stuck to my paint with 845 and require more frequent claying(my cars live outside 24/7). AIO with 845 on top seems to be very durable. 845 seems dirtier between washes than anything else I use. Maybe it attracts more dirt/dust? I am also trying RMG with OCW on top right now, we'll see how that holds up. I also did a 2006 Victory Red Vette with RMG and Souveran, but it's a garage queen, so I expect no issues.

I've had much better results durability-wise with Meguiars #16 than with Collinite 845 and #16 is great over RMG. Too bad #16 was discontinued and is hard to find.
